Changes in pericarp-browning index, pericarp water loss, PPO activity, and LcPPO expression of Feizixiao fruit under packaging treatment.

open access: yes, 2014
A. Pericarp-browning index: B. Pericarp water loss; C. PPO activity; and D. LcPPO expression. Fruit bagging reduced the water loss in pericarp of Fizixiao, and slowed down the pericarp-browning.

Trait‐Mediated Seed Predation and Dispersal Are Regulated by Seed Abundance for Sympatric Tree Species in the Qinling Mountains, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
We examined the effects of seed traits, seed abundance and seasonality on rodent‐mediated seed predation and dispersal of three sympatric oaks in the Qinling Mountains, China. Rodents consistently preferred Quercus variabilis seeds for caching, while Quercus glandulifera seeds were mostly consumed in situ.

Postharvest pericarp browning of lychee (litchi chinensis sonn.) fruit

open access: yes, 1992
Lychee (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is a non climacteric subtropical fruit indigenous to Southern China. Once harvested the brilliant red pericarp colour deteriorates rapidly, with the pericarp appearing brown within 24 to 48 hours after harvest.

Anti‐Browning and Prebiotic Effects of White Tea Extract on Fresh‐Cut Lotus Root

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
PPO‐driven browning limits the shelf life of fresh‐cut lotus root. Lotus root PPO was identified and its 3D structure modeled, with catechin and caffeic acid as specific substrates binding via 8 and 5 hydrogen bonds, respectively. White tea extract inhibited PPO and delayed browning of lotus root slices. White tea‐treated lotus root exhibited prebiotic

Efficacy of Aflatoxin B1 and Fumonisin B1 Adsorption by Maize, Wheat, and Oat Bran

open access: yesToxins
Mycotoxins, especially aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and fumonisin B1 (FMB1), are common contaminants in cereal-based foods. Instances of contamination are predicted to increase due to the current challenges induced by climate change.

Ultrasound in Pigmented Rice Processing: A Versatile Approach for Anthocyanin Retention and Extraction: A Review

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Ultrasound‐induced cavitation facilitates starch modification, moisture transfer, and anthocyanin release from pigmented rice. Its effectiveness depends strongly on processing parameters and matrix characteristics. Careful optimization is therefore required to improve processing efficiency and anthocyanin recovery while minimizing pigment degradation ...

Early Contributions Leading to Understanding the Significance of Epichloë Endophyte in Temperate Grasses

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, Volume 69, Issue 5, October 2026.
The role and use of Epichloë fungal endophytes in grazed temperate grass pastures and turf grasses are now well understood with regard to balancing pasture persistence while minimising animal health and welfare concerns. However, this understanding has only emerged since the early 1980s. Prior to this, although links between Epichloë endophytes, animal

Pericarp structure and myxocarpy in selected genera of Nepetoideae (Lamiaceae)

open access: yes, 1999
The pericarp structure has been analyzed in 37 species representing 13 genera from four tribes of Nepetoideae (Lamiaceae). 11 species are endemics of Balkan Peninsula or other Mediterranean regions.

Adjuvant Antibacterial Effects of Mouriri Elliptica Against Clinical Multidrug Resistant Gram‐Negative Bacterial Strains

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
The ethanolic leaf extract of Mouriri elliptica exhibited antibacterial and antibiofilm activities against multidrug‐resistant clinical isolates and enhanced the activity of ampicillin. Its diverse chemical profile and low acute toxicity support this Cerrado species as a promising source of natural antibacterial adjuvants. ABSTRACT Bacterial resistance
