Latent Periodicities in Genome Sequences

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing, 2008
A novel approach is presented for the detection of periodicities in DNA sequences. A DNA sequence can be modelled as a nonstationary stochastic process that exhibits various statistical periodicities over different regions. The coding part of the DNA, for instance, exhibits statistical periodicity with period three.

On the periodicity of the sequence

Journal of Difference Equations and Applications, 1999
We give a complete characterization of the behaviour of the sequence cited in the title with negative coefficients,i.e. we settle Conjecture 2.3.2 and Problem 2.3.1, and give a partial answer for Problem 2.3.2 of Ladas (J. Difference Equ. and Appl. 2 (1996) 339-341).

Recursively Generated Periodic Sequences

Canadian Journal of Mathematics, 1974
A sequence (xn) (n = 1, 2, . . .) is periodic if xn+p = xn for some p and all n. Periodic sequences arise naturally in geometry and arithmetic in the study of mosaic patterns [4], continued fractions and frieze patterns [3; 5]. Some digital oscillators and tone generators also generate periodic sequences. In these cases one computes the period p of the

Periodicity and Reflexivity in Revision Sequences

Studia Logica, 2015
Revision sequences were introduced in 1982 by Herzberger and Gupta (independently) as a mathematical tool in formalising their respective theories of truth. Since then, revision has developed in a method of analysis of theoretical concepts with several applications in other areas of logic and philosophy.

Nonparametric Inference for Periodic Sequences

Technometrics, 2012
This article proposes a nonparametric method for estimating the period and values of a periodic sequence when the data are evenly spaced in time. The period is estimated by a “leave-out-one-cycle” version of cross-validation (CV) and complements the periodogram, a widely used tool for period estimation.

On Periods of Pseudo-Random Sequences

Theory of Probability & Its Applications, 1964
Sequences of pseudo-random numbers are usually generated by recurrence formulas of the type (1). In order to increase the length L of the non-periodic part of a sequence, the “perturbed” sequence (2) may be used. The asymptotic distributions (3) and (4) of L and P are derived from elementary probability considerations, where P is the length of the ...

On the period of sequences in \(CL_{n}\)

2005
Summary: In this paper we investigate the period of 2-step sequences and 3-step sequences in \(CL_{n}\), the chain with \(n\) elements.
