Rheumatoid Arthritis and Coronary Artery Calcium Progression: A Case Cohort Analysis From ELSA‐Brasil

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To investigate the association between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and coronary artery calcium (CAC) prevalence, incidence, and progression over four years in adults without prior cardiovascular disease. Methods A case‐cohort study within the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA‐Brasil) included 585 participants (86 patients with ...

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

A global investigation of solitary-wave solutions to a two-parameter model for water waves

open access: yes, 1996
The model equation (2r''''/15)-(br'')+(ar)+(3r^2/2)-((r')^2/2)+[rr']'=0 arises as the equation for solitary-wave solutions to a fifth-order long-wave equation for gravitycapillary water waves.

QUASI-PERIODIC SOLUTIONS FOR 1D NONLINEAR WAVE EQUATION

open access: yesJournal of Applied Analysis & Computation, 2023
Summary: In this paper, one-dimensional (1D) nonlinear wave equation \[ u_{tt}-u_{xx}+mu+u^7=0 \] on the finite \(x\)-interval \([0, \pi]\) with Dirichlet boundary conditions is considered. It is proved that there are many \(3\)-dimensional elliptic invariant tori, and thus quasi-periodic solutions for the above equation.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Periodic and solitary-wave solutions of the Degasperis-Procesi equation

open access: yes, 2004
Travelling-wave solutions of the Degasperis-Procesi equation are investigated. The solutions are characterized by two parameters. For propagation in the positive x-direction, hump-like, inverted loop-like and coshoidal periodic-wave solutions are found ...

EXACT PERIODIC WAVE SOLUTIONS OF A SINGULAR INTEGRABLE EQUATION

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2011
In this paper, theory of dynamical systems is employed to investigate periodic waves of a singular integrable equation. These periodic waves contain smooth periodic waves, periodic cusp waves and periodic cusp loop waves. Under fixed parameter conditions, their exact parametric expressions are given.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Multicomponent rogue waves

open access: yes, 2015
We overview theoretical and experimental advances in the field of rogue wave solutions of multi-component optical wave systems. In these systems, the transfer of energy among the coupled waves may lead to novel and complex extreme wave phenomena.
