Novel pathogens in periodontal microbiology

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy And Bioallied Sciences, 2017
Periodontitis is a polymicrobial disease caused by complex interactions between distinct pathogens in a biofilm resulting in the destruction of periodontal tissues. It seems evident that unknown microorganisms might be involved in onset or progression of periodontitis.

Septic pulmonary embolism associated with periodontal disease: a case report and literature review

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2019
Background Periodontal disease, including periodontitis, has been reported to be a rare cause of septic pulmonary embolism (SPE). It is however extremely difficult to isolate the causative pathogen of periodontal disease-associated SPE from blood ...

Deep Sequencing of Porphyromonas gingivalis and comparative transcriptome analysis of a LuxS mutant

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2012
Porphyromonas gingivalis is a major etiological agent and chronic and aggressive forms of periodontal disease. The organism is an assacharolytic anaerobe and is a constituent of mixed species biofilms in a variety of microenvironments in the oral cavity.

The Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification for the Rapid Detection of Porphyromonas Gingivalis

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Periodontitis is a highly prevalent oral disease occurring across the globe, resulting from an interaction of many predisposing factors. Our study aimed to determine some chosen periopathogens (Porphyromonas gingivalis, Fusobacterium nucleatum ...

Distribution of Periodontal Pathogens in Korean Aggressive Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, 2003
Background: Microbial associations in aggressive periodontitis versus different ethnic origins are substantially unknown. We undertook this study to determine the prevalence of seven putative periodontopathogens in Korean patients and to evaluate microbial differences in localized and generalized aggressive periodontitis patients. Methods: Thirty‐nine ...

Biosynthesis, Characterization and Antibacterial Efficacy of Silver Nanoparticles Derived from Endophytic Fungi against P. gingivalis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2017
Introduction: Microbial resistance to existing antimicrobial agents in periodontal therapy is a growing problem. Therefore, there is a need for development of new antimicrobial agents.

Chronic oral application of a periodontal pathogen results in brain inflammation, neurodegeneration and amyloid beta production in wild type mice

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Background The results from cross sectional and longitudinal studies show that periodontitis is closely associated with cognitive impairment (CI) and Alzhemer’s Disease (AD).

Quorum Sensing of Periodontal Pathogens

open access: yesActa Stomatologica Croatica, 2015
The term 'quorum sensing' describes intercellular bacterial communication which regulates bacterial gene expression according to population cell density. Bacteria produce and secrete small molecules, named autoinducers, into the intercellular space. The concentration of these molecules increases as a function of population cell density.
