PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY

Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, 1999
Diabetes mellitus is the most common cause of peripheral neuropathy in the western world. There are many other causes of peripheral neuropathy, and a systematic approach (i.e., clinical, electrophysiologic, biochemical, and histologic) may be necessary to ascertain the underlying cause.

Peripheral Nerve

2016
In order to understand peripheral nerve dysfunction, and to follow neuronal regeneration, basic sciences of the peripheral nerve should be understood completely. A surgeon who operates on "nerves" uses this knowledge, especially the organization of the peripheral nerve, in nerve reconstructions.

Peripheral Regeneration

Annual Review of Neuroscience, 2007
Whereas the central nervous system (CNS) usually cannot regenerate, peripheral nerves regenerate spontaneously after injury because of a permissive environment and activation of the intrinsic growth capacity of neurons. Functional regeneration requires axon regrowth and remyelination of the regenerated axons by Schwann cells.

Peripheral Dystonia

Archives of Neurology, 1986
We studied four patients with distal, action-induced involuntary postures of the hand that could be considered focal dystonia. All four patients had electrophysiologic findings consistent with peripheral nervous system lesions (pronator teres syndrome, radial nerve palsy, lower brachial plexus lesion, or median nerve lesion).
