Peritonitis in Peritoneal Dialysis
The International Journal of Artificial Organs, 2002Peritonitis, an infectious complication of peritoneal dialysis, continues to account for much of the morbidity associated with this techniques. The clinical presentation and laboratory data used in diagnosis the peritonitis, as well as its differential diagnosis will be reviewed in this article.

Peritonitis simply means inflammation of the peritoneum. Most surgical cases of peritonitis arise secondary to bacterial contamination of the peritoneal cavity by organisms derived from the gastrointestinal tract. This common form of acute peritonitis is described in detail in this article, while other less common forms are discussed briefly.

The Peritoneal Microcirculation in Peritoneal Dialysis
Microcirculation, 2001ABSTRACTThis paper deals with the peritoneal microcirculation and with peritoneal exchange occurring in peritoneal dialysis (PD). The capillary wall is a major barrier to solute and water exchange across the peritoneal membrane. There is a bimodal size‐selectivity of solute transport between blood and the peritoneal cavity, through pores of radius ∼40 ...

Peritoneal fibrinolytic activity in peritonitis
The American Journal of Surgery, 2002Peritonitis may cause a reduction in abdominal fibrinolytic activity. The reduced local fibrinolysis seems to be an important process in the subsequent development of adhesion formation. The aim of the study was to evaluate peritoneal fibrinolytic capacity in inflamed and normal peritoneum.Peritoneal biopsy specimens were taken at the beginning of ...

Peritoneal Fluid Analysis in Peritoneal Dialysis–Associated Peritonitis
JAMA, 2022A 62-year-old woman undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) presented to the clinic with severe abdominal pain and cloudy PD fluid. Seven days prior, she inadvertently broke aseptic technique when tightening a leaking connection of her PD catheter tubing. Cloudy fluid that was drained from her PD catheter was sent for laboratory analysis. What would you do

Clinics in Geriatric Medicine, 1992
Intraperitoneal infections or inflammatory disease in elderly patients are a diagnostic challenge that will be encountered with increasing frequency in the aging population of the United States. Diagnostic clues are not overt and frequently appear late in the course of the disease.

In VitroAnalysis of Peritoneal Adhesions in Peritonitis
Journal of Surgical Research, 1996Peritoneal adhesions due to peritonitis make surgery more difficult and may cause complications. Clarifying the formation mechanism of peritoneal adhesions could help identify methods useful for their prevention. We cultured mesothelial monolayers on plates and microcarriers to simulate the parietal and visceral peritoneum, respectively.

Tuberculous Peritonitis Simulating Peritoneal Carcinosis
Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1982Abstract. Two cases are reported exemplifying the difficulties faced in the clinical diagnosis of peritoneal tuberculosis. Two fertile‐aged nulliparous females were admitted with symptoms and signs of an acute abdomen. Both showed a relative intenstinal obstruction, abdominal mass and ascitic fluid. A malignant disease was suspected and laparotomy was
