Peritoneal Tuberculosis Mimicking Peritoneal Carcinomatosis [PDF]

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine, 2014
A 67-year-old male presented with fatigue, abdominal pain , and 30-pound weight loss over 3 months. Computerized tomography (CT) abdomen displayed ascites with thickening and enhancement of the peritoneum and mottled nodular appearing as soft tissue consistent with omental caking worrisome for peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Peritonitis as a complication of peritoneal dialysis. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society of Nephrology, 1998
Peritonitis continues to be a serious complication for patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). Peritonitis is one of the major causes of hospitalization, accounting for 23% of admissions in the CANUSA study (1). Peritonitis is the leading cause of technique failure and catheter loss (2,3). Patients with frequent peritonitis are at increased risk of dying,

Treatment and outcome of CPD-associated peritonitis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials, 2006
CPD-associated peritonitis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality for ESRD patients maintained on CPD therapy. The percentage of ESRD patients maintained on CPD therapy is declining.

Predictors of peritoneal dialysis associated peritonitis; application of the zero-inflated negative binomial model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nephropathology, 2019
Background: Peritonitis is the main cause of morbidity and dropout from peritoneal dialysis (PD) program. Objectives: We aimed to determine risk factors predisposing to PD-associated peritonitis.

AADNMR: A Simple Method for Rapid Identification of Bacterial/Mycobacterial Infections in Antibiotic Treated Peritoneal Dialysis Effluent Samples for Diagnosis of Infectious Peritonitis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
An efficient method is reported for rapid identification of bacterial or mycobacterial infection in a suspected clinical/biological sample. The method is based on the fact that the ring methylene protons of cyclic fatty acids (constituting the cell membrane of several species of bacteria and mycobacteria) resonate specifically between -0.40 and 0.68 ...

The prevalence and bacterial distribution of peritonitis amongst adults undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis at Universitas hospital

open access: yesSouthern African Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2020
Background: Peritonitis is the leading cause of morbidity and technique failure in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. The International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) recommends each centre to monitor the peritonitis rates and the causative ...

New mathematical model for fluid-glucose-albumin transport in peritoneal dialysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
A mathematical model for fluid transport in peritoneal dialysis is constructed. The model is based on a three-component nonlinear system of two-dimensional partial differential equations for fluid, glucose and albumin transport with the relevant boundary and initial conditions. Non-constant steady-state solutions of the model are studied.

Peritoneal carcinomatosis [PDF]

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2013
Several gastrointestinal and gynecological malignancies have the potential to disseminate and grow in the peritoneal cavity. The occurrence of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) has been shown to significantly decrease overall survival in patients with liver and/or extraperitoneal metastases from gastrointestinal cancer.

The Effect of Hyponatremia on Prognosis of Peritoneal Dialysis Patients with Peritonitis

open access: yesمجله دانشکده پزشکی اصفهان, 2017
Background: Hyponatremia is known to be a marker of poor prognosis in many diseases. Peritonitis is the most common complication and the leading cause of mortality in patients under peritoneal dialysis.
