Fluid mechanics in the perivascular space
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2011Perivascular space (PVS) within the brain is an important pathway for interstitial fluid (ISF) and solute transport. Fluid flowing in the PVS can affect these transport processes and has significant impacts on physiology. In this paper, we carry out a theoretical analysis to investigate the fluid mechanics in the PVS.

Is There a Connection Between Perivascular Space and Subarachnoid Space?

There are a few reports exhibiting subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and intracerebral hematomas extending to the PVSs by leakage of the leptomeninges that surround arteries.

Nature, 1947According to recent, investigations by Van Rijssel1 on a species of carp (Carassius Gibelio), the perivascular spaces penetrate throughout the brain. Cerebrospinal fluid circulates in the spaces, and thus the external and internal liquors mix. This circulation goes in the same direction as the blood circulation and is created by the pulse wave.
