ABSTRACT The Kumamoto oyster, Crassostrea sikamea, is a marine bivalve naturally distributed along the coasts of southern China and southern Japan, with a hatchery population that has been under domestication in the United States since its introduction from Japan in the 1940s.

Comparative genomic analysis of multi-subunit tethering complexes demonstrates an ancient pan-eukaryotic complement and sculpting in Apicomplexa. [PDF]
Apicomplexa are obligate intracellular parasites that cause tremendous disease burden world-wide. They utilize a set of specialized secretory organelles in their invasive process that require delivery of components for their biogenesis and function, yet ...

Research Trends on Antimicrobial Peptides in Aquaculture: A Thematic and Bibliometric Analysis
The emergence of antimicrobial resistance has become a critical concern in aquaculture. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), a class of small, natural or synthetic peptides that protect hosts from microbial infections, offer a promising alternative to traditional antibiotics.

New York State Climate Impacts Assessment Chapter 08: Society and Economy
Abstract Climate change is affecting or will affect the lives of every resident of New York State. This chapter examines the impacts of climate change on five critical areas in the state: populations and migration, the economy, education, culture, and government. The chapter highlights differential vulnerabilities among the state's regions, populations,

ABSTRACT Triploid oysters are commonly used as the basis for production in the aquaculture of eastern oysters along the USA East and Gulf of Mexico coasts. While they are valued for their rapid growth, incidents of triploid mortality during summer months have been well documented in eastern oysters, especially at low salinity sites.

Apoptosis in Crassostrea virginica and its modulation by Perkinsus marinus
Apoptosis has been implicated as a defense mechanism against intracellular parasites whereas the parasite‐induced manipulation of host apoptosis is a means to extend survival and proliferation. Perkinsus marinus is an intracellular protozoan parasite which causes large scale mortalities in ...

Perkinsus atlanticus and P. marinus have been associated with mass mortality of bivalve molluscs. Perkinsus infections are routinely diagnosed by histology or the fluid thioglycollate medium (FTM) assay. In this study, we describe the development of a PCR-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for amplification and rapid detection of Perkinsus ...

The Apicomplexan parasite Toxoplasma gondii encodes a canonical AMPK complex and a KIN kinase that has sequence similarities to AMPKα. Genetic studies showed that AMPKα was essential for Toxoplasma growth whereas KIN was dispensable. In addition, an α‐helix region in the C‐terminal region of AMPKα was found to be crucial for its function.
