Six Labeobarbus species occur in the Middle Luhoho, a left‐bank affluent of the Lowa River, including two chiselmouth species (Labeobarbus brauni, L. longidorsalis) and three rubberlip species (L. caudovittatus, L. longifilis, L. paucisquamatus), as well as an intermediate phenotype referred to as the smiling phenotype.

Our study shows that the landscape‐scale environmental gradient represented as ecotone and as local environmental factors can alternately determine the spatial structures of the floodplain biota across seasons. The study highlights the understudied yet important linkages of spatial and temporal biotic assemblages and advance understanding of ecology ...

Abstract Food webs vary in space and time. The structure and spatial arrangement of food webs are theorized to mediate temporal dynamics of energy flow, but empirical corroboration in intermediate‐scale landscapes is scarce. River‐floodplain landscapes encompass a mosaic of aquatic habitat patches and food webs, supporting a variety of aquatic ...

Similarity of stream insect trait profiles across biogeographic regions
Abstract Aim Habitat templet theory predicts that the functional niches of species evolved in response to selection pressures imposed by each species' spatial–temporal environment. Consequently, similar environmental conditions should lead to convergence in the biological trait composition of biogeographically independent assemblages.
