Effect of Rubberized Bitumen Blending Methods on Permanent Deformation of SMA Rubberized Asphalt Mixtures

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2016
This study aims at comparing the permanent deformation of Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) rubberized asphalt mixtures produced by the wet process. In this study, rubberized binders were prepared using two different blending methods, namely, continuous blend ...

Nuclear fusion as a probe for octupole deformation in $^{224}$Ra

open access: yes, 2015
$\textit{Background}$: Nuclear fusion has been shown to be a perfect probe to study the different nuclear shapes. However, the possibility of testing octupole deformation of a nucleus with this tool has not been fully explored yet.

Low velocity impact modeling in composite laminates capturing permanent indentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper deals with impact damage and permanent indentation modeling. A numerical model has been elaborated in order to simulate the different impact damage types developing during low velocity/low energy impact.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Neural network-based model for prediction of permanent deformation of unbound granular materials

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2019
Several available mechanistic-empirical pavement design methods fail to include predictive model for permanent deformation (PD) of unbound granular materials (UGMs), which make these methods more conservative.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Effect of Amplitude Profiles on the Structural Response of Modified Bottom Panels in High-Speed Craft due to Slamming Loads: A Finite Element Method Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Eta Maritime Science
Slamming phenomena experienced by ships operating under extreme conditions can result in permanent hull deformation, potentially compromising structural integrity.

Permanent deformation characterization of bituminous mixtures: laboratorial tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In the last years some laboratorial tests are used to predict the permanent deformation behaviour of bituminous mixtures. Among those tests the Wheel Tracking test, the Cyclic Compression Test (Uniaxial and Triaxial) and the Repetitive Shear at ...
