COMPACT PERMANENT-MAGNET MACHINES

Electric Machines & Power Systems, 1997
ABSTRACT The availability of new high-field permanent-magnet materials has created opportunities for novel topologies of electrical machines with advantageous characteristics such as high efficiency and good power/weight ratio. A disc-type arrangement, with slotless winding and axially-directed flux in the air gap, has particularly short axial length ...

Permanent-magnet machines

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1997
This paper explores the use of an interior permanent-magnet synchronous machine (IPM) as a source of controlled DC power. A three-phase diode rectifier converts the generated AC power into DC, which is further processed by a buck or boost DC-DC converter with a pulse-width modulation voltage controller for load voltage and output power regulation.

Self-Healing Permanent Magnet Machines

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2021
The concept of self-healed permanent magnet (PM) machines is presented in this article. In order to demonstrate its technical feasibility, the remagnetization behavior of hard ferrite magnets in closed circuit as a function of temperature is initially discussed.

Permanent Magnet Machines

1991
Permanent magnet excited machines have always featured strongly in the application of magnets, and forecasts indicate that they will continue to do so. Compared to other machine formats, such as those based on induction or switched reluctance principles, permanent magnet excited types provide considerable flexibility in design, and many different ...

Vernier Machines with Azimuthally Magnetized Permanent Magnets

2021 17th Conference on Electrical Machines, Drives and Power Systems (ELMA), 2021
This paper complements a study initially made by the authors [1] on double stator vernier machines by introducing a dynamic simulation and presents the results of simulation of vernier machines, having flux concentration magnetization pattern of permanent magnets in Matlab/Simulink.

Pole-changing permanent-magnet machines

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2002
Electric drives in which discrete speed control is required are today equipped exclusively with squirrel-cage induction motors, due to the property of the squirrel cage to always have the same number of poles as the stator winding. Conventional permanent-magnet (PM) machines have a constant number of poles and can be operated from a constant frequency ...

Dynamic Permanent Magnet Flux Estimation of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2010
This paper deals with rotor flux estimation in permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). In most application, the rotor flux linkage is treated as a known constant. However a high operation temperature or a stator winding current impulse may cause magnet flux ripple or demagnetization which has direct impact on machines performance.

Permanent magnet machines torque considerations

Conference Record of the 1988 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2003
An analytical model has been developed to predict accurately cogging and commutating torques of permanent-magnet brushless DC machines with buried and surface-mounted magnets. Computer programs have been written to evaluate the analytical models, and the results are compared with finite-element analysis and test results.
