Electromagnetic transient response of rotationally symmetric permeable conducting objects
1988 IEEE AP-S. International Symposium, Antennas and Propagation, 2003Low-frequency transient response is often used to detect or identify buried objects. At sufficiently low frequencies, the signal penetration in the ground is high and the air-earth interface has a negligible effect on the return response. The use of an exciting current loop also minimizes the ground conductivity effect.

Electromagnetic-heating enhancement of source rock permeability for high recovery
Fuel, 2021Abstract Source rock shales have permeability in the nano-Darcy range and require drilling long horizontal wells and extensive hydraulic fracturing to commercially produce hydrocarbons. Recently, an electromagnetic (EM) thermal method was proposed as a primary, or secondary, stimulation method to produce light hydrocarbons from extremely tight ...

Electromagnetic—acoustic evaluation of the permeability of porous media
Acoustical Physics, 2001The generation of ultrasound in a porous water-saturated medium subjected to rapid electromagnetic heating is considered. The irradiation provides the Joule heating of narrow and electrically high resistive pore throats, which interconnect cavities within the medium and, consequently, determine the permeability of the medium.

An Electromagnetic Cantilever Generator with High-Permeability Magnetic Materials
2018 IEEE 13th Annual International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems (NEMS), 2018This paper presented an electromagnetic cantilever generator (EMCG) of high energy density with high-permeability magnetic materials for harvesting ambient vibrational energy. We utilized a flexible cantilever connecting with a pair of magnets on the free end, and the coils with high-permeability magnetic materials are set right in front of the magnets.

Inversion of Multifrequency Electromagnetic Data to a Conductive and Permeable Sphere
Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems 2001, 2001We have developed an algorithm for inverting broadband electromagnetic (EM) data to determine its electrical conductivity, magnetic permeability, radius, and depth using a sphere model. The algorithm is based on traditional non-linear inverse methods with singular value decomposition.

Quasistatic transient electromagnetic response of a permeable nonuniformly conducting cylinder
Canadian Journal of Physics, 1976The step-pulse response of a permeable and a radially nonuniformly conducting cylinder is obtained. Effects of the conductivity distribution pattern and the magnetic permeability on the transient response are examined in detail. It is found that: (i) the initial response (for t → 0) remains unaffected by both the inhomogeneity and the permeability of ...

Electromagnetic Response Prediction for Conductive, Permeable, Heterogeneous Steel-cased Wells
Proceedings, 2017Summary Steel-cased wells can be used as galvanic sources to detect and estimate variations in subsurface electrical conductivity. Most of the modeling approaches are based on approximations to the casing and ignore the variations in magnetic permeability.

THE NEGATIVE PERMITTIVITY AND PERMEABILITY CHARACTERISTICS OF TRIANGULAR ELECTROMAGNETIC RESONATORS
International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2011In this paper, the triangular electromagnetic resonators (TERs) is introduced and investigated. The electric mode at lower frequency and magnetic mode at higher frequency, originating from coupling to the electric field and magnetic field, are validated through the measurement in parallel-plate waveguide system, parameter retrieval algorithm and ...

Toward subsurface magnetic permeability imaging with electromagnetic induction sensors
2018In near-surface geophysics, small portable loop-loop electro-magnetic induction (EMI) sensors using harmonic sources with a constant and rather small frequency are increasingly used to investigate the electrical properties of the subsurface. For such sensors, the influence of electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability on the EMI response is well-
