The permissible and the forbidden
Journal of Economic Theory, 2020Abstract In many economic situations, neither prices nor authority rules. Rather, individual behavior is governed by social norms that specify what is allowed (socially acceptable) and what is forbidden (socially unacceptable). These norms can emerge in a decentralized way and can serve as a method to bring order to economic situations.

Traditional practice of mechanical ventilation includes tactics to reduce lung injury, such as avoidance of excessive airway pressure, patient distress, and tidal volume. Gas exchange objectives have received priority, however, and a degree of lung injury has been accepted as inevitable. The current trend toward increasing use of permissive hypercapnia

In “Epistemic Permissiveness”, Roger White presents several arguments against Extreme Permissivism, the view that there are possible cases where, given one’s total evidence, it would be rational to either believe P, or to believe ∼P. In this paper, we carefully reconstruct White’s arguments and then argue that they do not succeed.

It is common these days to discuss euthanasia from two viewpoints. One view sees euthanasia as mercy killing, the direct termination of the life of someone, who through the action of disease or other cause, is in a state where continued life seems more useless or cruel than death itself.

Mechanical ventilation using high tidal volume (VT) and transpulmonary pressure can damage the lung, causing ventilator-induced lung injury. Permissive hypercapnia, a ventilatory strategy for acute respiratory failure in which the lungs are ventilated with a low inspiratory volume and pressure, has been accepted progressively in critical care for adult,

Discipline is education, not punishment. Be a good example to your children. Numerous factors determine the child-rearing style individual parents select. Other than the overtly abusive, hostile, on grossly inconsistent style, no empirical research has shown some style of rearing to cause children serious damage or to be vastly ...

AbstractUtterances and statements that are concerned with obligations and permissions are known as deontic expressions. They can present something of a challenge when it comes to formalising their meaning and behaviour. The content of these expressions can appear to support entailment relations similar to those of classical propositions, but such ...
