Membrane separation technology in the 1980s [PDF]
The current status of membrane technology is assessed and industrial processes in which membrane technology could effect energy savings or other advantages are identified. The extension of current trends is recommended; i.e., the development of ultrathin

Permselectivities of Cation-exchange Membranes

A novel Reverse Electrodialysis application to generate power from low-grade heat [PDF]
A novel idea for the conversion of low-temperature heat into electricity is based on the generation of electricity from salinity gradients using a Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) device in a closed-loop system.

Effect of crowding on the electron transfer process from plastocyanin and cytochrome c6 to photosystem I: a comparative study from cyanobacteria to green algae [PDF]
Plastocyanin and cytochrome c 6, the alternate donor proteins to photosystem I, can be acidic, neutral or basic; the role of electrostatics in their interaction with photosystem I vary accordingly for cyanobacteria, algae and plants.

Water Resistant Composite Membranes for Carbon Dioxide Separation from Methane
Membranes that are resistant to water vapor permeation have potential in natural gas sweetening by reducing the need for pretreatment. The perfluorinated polymer Teflon AF1600 has proven resistance to water vapor, which is adapted here in the form of ...

Carboxymethyl lysine induces EMT in podocytes through transcription factor ZEB2:Implications for podocyte depletion and proteinuria in diabetes mellitus [PDF]
Advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) are implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy (DN). N-carboxymethyl-lysine (CML) is one of the predominant AGEs that accumulate in all renal compartments of diabetic patients.

Fabrication of highly permselective mixed matrix graphene oxide/ sodium tripolyphosphate-based cation exchange membranes for monovalent and divalent ion desalination [PDF]
In this study, graphene oxide (GO) was functionalized by sodium triphosphate (NaTPP) through a physical grafting method and used as a nanofiller to fabricate cation exchange membranes based on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). The influences of the loading

Polyoxometalate-based plasmonic electron sponge membrane for nanofluidic osmotic energy conversion
Nanofluidic membranes have demonstrated great potential in harvesting osmotic energy. However, the output power densities are usually hampered by insufficient membrane permselectivity.

Correlation Between Polymer Packing And Gas Transport Properties For Co2/N2 Separation In Glassy Fluorinated Polyimide Membrane [PDF]
Gas separation performance of a membrane highly hinges on its physical properties. In this study, the interplay between polymer packing of a membrane and its gas transport behaviours (permeability and selectivity) was investigated through a series of ...

Suitable permselective membrane systems
Ethylene-co-vinyl acetate (EVA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were used as the precursors for the elaboration of the proton-exchange and gas separation membranes. It was found that the EVA hydrolysis allowed elaborating copolymers with tuned properties for the gas separation due to the different VAc/VOH group ratio.
