Permutation entropy revisited [PDF]
Time-series analysis in terms of ordinal patterns is revisited by introducing a generalized permutation entropy $H_p(w,L)$, which depends on two different window lengths: $w$, implicitly defining the resolution of the underlying partition; $L$, playing the role of an embedding dimension, analogously to standard nonlinear time-series analysis.

Unveiling the Connectivity of Complex Networks Using Ordinal Transition Methods
Ordinal measures provide a valuable collection of tools for analyzing correlated data series. However, using these methods to understand information interchange in the networks of dynamical systems, and uncover the interplay between dynamics and ...

Measuring the complexity of securities’ time series in VN30 index: A permutation entropy approach
The paper applies the Bandt and Pompe (2002) method to measure the complexity of daily close price and daily return of VN30’s stocks during the period from January 2000 to August 2018.

Epileptogenic focus detection in intracranial EEG based on delay permutation entropy [PDF]
Epileptogenic localization is a critical factor for successful epilepsy surgery. Determining the epileptogenic hippocampus with single channel intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG) recording is beneficial to decrease the risk of infection compared ...

Permutation Complexity and Coupling Measures in Hidden Markov Models
Recently, the duality between values (words) and orderings (permutations) has been proposed by the authors as a basis to discuss the relationship between information theoretic measures for finite-alphabet stationary stochastic processes and their ...

Permutation Entropy for Random Binary Sequences [PDF]
In this paper, we generalize the permutation entropy (PE) measure to binary sequences, which is based on Shannon’s entropy, and theoretically analyze this measure for random binary sequences. We deduce the theoretical value of PE for random binary sequences, which can be used to measure the randomness of binary sequences.

A New Kind of Permutation Entropy Used to Classify Sleep Stages from Invisible EEG Microstructure [PDF]
Permutation entropy and order patterns in an EEG signal have been applied by several authors to study sleep, anesthesia, and epileptic absences. Here, we discuss a new version of permutation entropy, which is interpreted as distance to white noise.
