BIOKINETICS OF CESIUM IN PERNA VIRIDIS

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 2000
Abstract The biokinetics of Cs in four compartments in the green-lipped mussel Perna viridis, namely, gill, viscera, adductor muscle, and foot, were studied. First-order linear differential equations were set up for these four compartments, and their solutions were used to fit the experimental data.

Greening of the coasts: a review of the Perna viridis success story

Aquatic Ecology, 2006
The green mussel Perna viridis has been receiving a lot of attention from workers working in the research areas of intertidal ecology, aquaculture, pollution monitoring, biofouling, zoogeography and invasion biology. P. viridis is a remarkable species in terms of its ability to reach very high biomass levels, to withstand environmental fluctuations, to

Microplastic contamination in Indian edible mussels (Perna perna and Perna viridis) and their environs

Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2021
This study investigated the microplastic (MPs) contamination of the mussels, P. viridis and P. perna of different sizes, and their environment viz. water and sediment. MPs were recovered from the soft tissues of both species. The mean abundance of MPs ranges from 0.87 ± 0.55 to 10.02 ± 4.15 items/individual; 0.1 ± 0.03 to 2.05 ± 0.33 items/g; 31.57 ± 7.

Structure and function of the periostracum in the bivalve Perna viridis

Micron, 2023
The periostracum is an outermost coating of all shelled-molluscs such as bivalves, corresponding to the interfacial layer separating the calcareous shells from the environment. It therefore plays a key role in the growth and survival of bivalves. Nevertheless, the periostracum has attracted little attention.

Mathematical modeling of PCB bioaccumulation in Perna viridis

Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2002
In the present work, we built a mathematical model of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) bioaccumulation in Perna viridis, namely, a one-compartment model with a time dependent incorporation rate R (microg g(-1) lipid per ppb water per day), with positive substrate cooperativity as the underlying physical mechanism.

Perna viridis

2023
