Genome-Wide Characterization of Class III Peroxidases and Their Expression Profile During Mycorrhizal Symbiosis and Phosphorus Deprivation in Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.)

open access: yesHorticulturae
Lettuce cultivation requires high fertilizer inputs, which impact the environment and costs. Arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis (AMS) can reduce fertilizer use, enhance plant nutrition (especially phosphorus), and promote healthier plants.

Identifying prognostic targets in metastatic prostate cancer beyond AR

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Genome‐wide functional screens combined with a large gene expression database and clinical outcomes can identify new therapeutic vulnerabilities in prostate cancer. Eight potentially druggable targets demonstrated strong dependency in cell lines, were associated with worse prognosis clinically, and showed evidence of protein expression in prostate ...

Enzymatic functionalization of carbon-hydrogen bonds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The development of new catalytic methods to functionalize carbon–hydrogen (C–H) bonds continues to progress at a rapid pace due to the significant economic and environmental benefits of these transformations over traditional synthetic methods.

Earthing effects on mitochondrial function: ATP production and ROS generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In contrast to sham and naive controls, grounded mitochondria not only exhibit significantly enhanced energy production but also demonstrate a remarkable reduction in membrane potential and oxidative stress. This suggests a profound improvement in mitochondrial health, presenting a promising avenue for therapeutic interventions.

Carbon Nanodots as Peroxidase Nanozymes for Biosensing

open access: yesMolecules, 2016
‘Nanozymes’, a term coined by Scrimin, Pasquato, and co-workers to describe nanomaterials with enzyme-like characteristics, represent an exciting and emerging research area in the field of artificial enzymes.

Biophysical characterization and ion transport with cell‐based and proteoliposome reconstitution assays of invertebrate K+‐Cl− cotransporters

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The K+‐Cl− cotransporters (KCCs) facilitate the symport of ions across the plasma membrane. They participate in physiological processes including neuronal regulation. Here, we characterized KCCs from Drosophila and Hydra vulgaris. Comparative analyses of transporters provide insights into the mechanism of KCC ion transport, regulation, and evolution ...

QM/MM Molecular Dynamics Studies of Metal Binding Proteins

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2014
Mixed quantum-classical (quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM)) simulations have strongly contributed to providing insights into the understanding of several structural and mechanistic aspects of biological molecules. They played a particularly

Co‐overexpression of the caloric restriction‐induced mitochondrial factors PGC‐1α and MIPEP upregulates Phospho1 expression in adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caloric restriction that extends lifespan induces the expression of PGC‐1α and MIPEP in white adipose tissue. In this study, co‐overexpression of Pgc‐1α and Mipep upregulated the gene expression of PHOSPHO1. These findings provide new insights into mitochondria‐related mechanisms underlying the effects of caloric restriction in adipocytes.
