The SOD2 C47T polymorphism influences NAFLD fibrosis severity: evidence from case-control and intra-familial allele association studies. [PDF]
AIMS: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a complex disease trait where genetic variations and environment interact to determine disease progression.

The Copper Chaperone for Superoxide Dismutase [PDF]
Copper is distributed to distinct localizations in the cell through diverse pathways. We demonstrate here that the delivery of copper to copper/zinc superoxide dismutase (SOD1) is mediated through a soluble factor identified as Saccharomyces cerevisiae LYS7 and human CCS (copper chaperone for SOD).

Serum antioxidants as predictors of the adult respiratory distress syndrome in septic patients [PDF]
Adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) can develop as a complication of various disorders, including sepsis, but it has not been possible to identify which of the patients at risk will develop this serious disorder.

(−)-Deprenyl can induce soluble superoxide dismutase in rat striata
(–)-Deprenyl (0.25 or 2mg/kg) or saline was injected daily into male Wistar rats for 3 weeks. The striata were dissected out and soluble and particulate Superoxide dismutase activity measured.

A mutation in dynein rescues axonal transport defects and extends the life span of ALS mice [PDF]
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative condition characterized by motoneuron degeneration and muscle paralysis. Although the precise pathogenesis of ALS remains unclear, mutations in Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) account for

Mouse models for preeclampsia: disruption of redox-regulated signaling [PDF]
The concept that oxidative stress contributes to the development of human preeclampsia has never been tested in genetically-defined animal models. Homozygous deletion of catechol-Omethyl transferase (Comt-/-) in pregnant mice leads to human preeclampsia ...

Determination of cell viability of superoxide dismutase knockout Escherichia coli strains using oxidative stress assays [PDF]
Cell viability of superoxide dismutase knockout Escherichia coli strains using oxidative stress assays was determined for three strains: Periplasmic knockout (AS393), cytoplasmic knockout (PN134), and periplasmic/cytoplasmic knockout (AS391).

The effect of pergolide and MDL 72974 on rat brain CuZn superoxide dismutase
It has previously been shown that both the dopamine receptor agonist, pergolide, and the monoamine oxidase inhibitor. (−)-deprenyl, can cause induction of CuZn superoxide dismutase in the rat striatum. We have now confirmed this effect of pergolide (0.04
