Peroxynitrous acid: controversy and consensus surrounding an enigmatic oxidant.
Dalton Transactions, 2012The isomerisation of ONOOH to NO(3)(-) and H(+), some oxidations and all hydroxylations and nitrations of aromatic compounds are first-order in ONOOH and zero-order in the compounds that are modified.

Evaluation of Activation Volumes for the Conversion of Peroxynitrous to Nitric Acid
The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2003Peroxynitrous acid, an inorganic toxin of biological importance, acts both as an oxidizing and a nitrating agent during its conversion to nitric acid. In discussions of the mechanism of this conversion, activation volumes have been invoked to distinguish between possible mechanisms, viz., homolysis of the O−O bond versus rotation via the N−O bond of ...

Abstract The photolysis of nitrate embedded in ice and snow can be a significant source of volatile nitrogen oxides affecting the composition of the planetary boundary layer. In this work, we examined the nitrogen oxides evolved from irradiated frozen solutions containing nitrate.

Peroxynitrite/peroxynitrous acid (ONOO(-)/ONOOH; pK(a(ONOOH)) =6.8) is implicated in multiple chronic inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases. Both mammalian B(12)-dependent enzymes are inactivated under oxidative stress conditions. We report studies

There is currently much interest in the biochemical reactivity of peroxynitrite/peroxynitrous acid (ONOO / ONOOH; pKa(ONOOH) =6.8), [1] a strong oxidizing, hydroxylating and/or nitrating agent formed by the diffusion controlled reaction of nitric oxide ...

Theoretical Study on Raman Spectra of Aqueous Peroxynitric Acid
Chinese Journal of Chemical Physics, 2011Using density functional theory and polarizable continuum models, we study the Raman spectra of aqueous peroxynitric acid. The calculated results indicate that the solvent effect has significant influence on the electric dipole transition moments between the ground and excited electronic state and Raman polarizabilities.
