The many prices of war and occupation: Black markets and the cost‐of‐living index in France, 1938–1949

Abstract When studying French prices between 1938 and 1949, economists and historians face a paradox: whilst a vast black market shaped daily life, official indices recorded only state‐controlled prices. This article addresses the issue by introducing a new consumer price index that incorporates both official and black market prices.

ABSTRACT We investigated the effects of whole reservoir nitrogen (N) addition on kokanee growth in Dworshak Reservoir, Idaho. We hypothesized that N addition would improve the growth of kokanee (Oncorhynchus nerka) at a given level of abundance by increasing the availability of Daphnia, an important food source.

Human‐induced environmental change is reshaping plant communities, requiring native animals to adapt their foraging behaviour to track and exploit novel food resources. Trees such as pines (Pinus spp.) introduced for plantation forestry outside of their native ranges often become naturalized.
