From innovation to application of personal cooling vest
Smart and Sustainable Built Environment, 2016Purpose– The Hong Kong government agencies launched a “Cooling Vest Promotion Pilot Scheme” across four industries, namely, construction, horticulture and cleaning, airport apron services, and kitchen and catering industries in 2013. A follow-up questionnaire survey regarding this innovative heat stress controlling measure was administered to evaluate ...

Continuous and intermittent personal microclimate cooling strategies.
Aviation, space, and environmental medicine, 1995A comparison was made between two personal auxiliary cooling approaches for the relief of thermal stress while wearing the standard USAF Chemical Defense Ensemble (CDE). Subjects exercised at approximately 40% VO2max in either warm (28/24/34 degrees C) or hot (38/26/43 degrees C) environmental conditions, (Tdb/Twb/Tbg degrees C, respectively).

Personal cooling system with phase change material
2020Personal cooling systems (PCS) are attracting more attention recently since they can set back building thermostat setpoints to achieve energy savings and provide high-level human comfort by focusing on micro-environment conditions around occupants rather than the entire building space.

Use of appropriate personal protective equipment is essential for healthcare workers when dealing with patients who have tested positive or are suspected of having Covid-19. Personal protective equipment is uncomfortable at best. In hot countries (like India) or in a hot place of work, its wearers are at a high risk of heat-related illnesses.

Personal cooling using thermal conduction on the desk
2015In order to reduce the energy load on buildings, the indoor climate will not be maintained within narrow boundaries in the future. With the application of local conditioning systems that offer individual building occupants the possibility to increase their personal comfort level, a narrow boundary is no longer necessary.

Efficient local personal cooling with fluctuating airflows
2015Overheating in buildings is an increasingly important issue. Various studies show that local personalized cooling can substantially improve comfort levels while saving energy. Airflows are an efficient approach for local cooling. Fluctuating airflows seem more effective and are potentially perceived more comfortable compared to continuous airflows.
