Composite Fibers of Hydroxypropyl Cellulose and Alginate Spun From Aqueous Solution: Crosslinking Effects on Water Absorption and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Alginate‐HPC composite fibers spun via CaCl2‐induced gelation process. Fiber diameter ranges from 100 to 200 μm after air drying. Higher alginate boosts water absorption in dried fibers. HPC selectively diffuses out when fibers are soaked in water. Crosslinking with hexamethylene diisocyanate improves mechanical strength.

Management and incipient domestication of Chamaedorea tepejilote in agroforestry systems in Mexico

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Native wild plants are key elements in addressing global biodiversity loss and supporting sustainable food systems. We investigated how rural communities in Mexico manage Chamaedorea tepejilote, a wild palm with edible male inflorescences, by combining ethnobotanical, genetic, morphological and ecological approaches.

Modelo Explicativo de Consumo de Alcohol en Personal de Salud

open access: yesHorizon Interdisciplinary Journal

Phthalate Metabolite, Mono(2‐Ethyl‐5‐Hydroxyhexyl) Phthalate (MEHHP), Promotes Uterine‐Fibroid–Associated Phenotypes in Myometrial Stem Cell‐Derived 3D Organoids

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates how phthalate exposure contributes to uterine fibroid (UF) development by studying the effects of the Mono‐(2‐ethyl‐5‐hydroxyhexyl) phthalate (MEHHP), a metabolite of Di(2‐ethylhexyl) phthalate, on myometrial stem cells (MMSCs).

Feasibility of Post‐Operative Telehealth for Pediatric Surgical Patients in Malawi—A Mixed Methods Analysis

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Pediatric operative volumes in Malawi have increased over the past decade due to an increase in the pediatric surgical workforce and improved infrastructure. Despite growth in surgical capacity, limited data exist regarding post‐operative outcomes for common surgical diseases in low‐resource settings. Post‐operative follow‐up via phone call is feasible

Feathers and flu: identifying data gaps in avian influenza host dynamics to prioritize wildlife conservation Plumas y gripe: identificación de datos faltantes en la dinámica de hospedadores de la influenza aviar para priorizar la conservación de la vida silvestre

open access: yesWildlife Monographs, EarlyView.
We describe the host response continuum for highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV), including the continuum of host responses to HPAIV infection and exposure based on the primary axis of host competence, ability to infect other hosts, and host vulnerability.
