Automatic detection of spermatozoa for laser capture microdissection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In sexual assault crimes, differential extraction of spermatozoa from vaginal swab smears is often ineffective, especially when only a few spermatozoa are present in an overwhelming amount of epithelial cells.

Tracking the built status of MEP works: Assessing the value of a Scan-vs-BIM system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) works constitute a large portion of construction costs and thus need to be appropriately tracked. Assessment of the built status of MEP works in construction projects is however typically limited to ...

Fabrication and characterization of dual function nanoscale pH-scanning ion conductance microscopy (SICM) probes for high resolution pH mapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The easy fabrication and use of nanoscale dual function pH-scanning ion conductance microscopy (SICM) probes is reported. These probes incorporate an iridium oxide coated carbon electrode for pH measurement and an SICM barrel for distance control ...

Integration of Laser Scanning and Three-dimensional Models in the Legal Process Following an Industrial Accident

open access: yesSafety and Health at Work, 2017
Background: In order to obtain a deeper understanding of an incident, it needs to be investigated to “peel back the layers” and examine both immediate and underlying failures that contributed to the event itself.

Wide-bandwidth mode-hop-free tuning of extended-cavity GaN diode lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present a new approach for extended-cavity diode-laser tuning to achieve wide mode-hop-free tuning ranges. By using a multiple piezoactuated grating mount, the cavity length and grating angle in the laser can be adjusted independently, allowing mode ...

Compact hollow waveguide mid-infrared gas sensor for simultaneous measurements of ambient CO2 and water vapor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
A compact, sensitive and stable hollow waveguide (HWG) mid-infrared gas sensor, based on gas absorption lines using wavelength modulation spectroscopy with a second harmonic (WMS-2f) detection scheme, was developed for simultaneous measurements of ...

A versatile dual spot laser scanning confocal microscopy system for advanced fluorescence correlation spectroscopy analysis in living cell [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) system based on two independent measurement volumes is presented. The optical setup and data acquisition hardware are detailed, as well as a complete protocol to control the location, size and shape of the ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

IoT-Based Research Equipment Sharing System for Remotely Controlled Two-Photon Laser Scanning Microscopy

open access: yesSensors, 2021
In this study, two-photon laser scanning microscopy (TPLSM) based on the internet of things (IoT) is proposed as a remote research equipment sharing system, which enables the remote sharing economy. IoT modules, where data are transmitted to and received

Furan‐Substituted Phosphine‐Oxide as an Efficient Interfacial Modifier for Wide‐Bandgap Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report phosphine‐oxide interlayers for wide‐bandgap perovskite solar cells, in which tuned P = O Lewis basicity enables selective passivation of buried NiOx/perovskite interfaces and introduces interfacial dipoles that strengthen the built‐in field.
