Abstract Dynamics of the density perturbations of the main plasma components (electrons, oxygen and hydrogen ions) in the upper ionosphere and the magnetosphere under the action of powerful HF radio waves is discussed theoretically and numerically. For finite heating pulse and different effective powers the variations of the density perturbations in ...

Abstract A new model is developed to describe the response of the unstable near-equatorial F region plasma to the spatial packet of atmospheric gravity waves (AGWs) of the lithospheric origin. Presence of both propagating and non-propagating (upward) modes in the spectrum of exited AGW packet is accounted for.

Abstract A computer simulation is carried out of strong electron temperature and density perturbations penetrated into the Earth's plasmasphere from the ionospheric F-region heated by intense radio wave. At night time the following effects are predicted: a rapid growth of the electron temperature in the F-region, excitation in the plasmasphere of a ...

We present the results of measuring the characteristics of electromagnetic and plasma perturbations at the altitudes of the Earth’s outer ionosphere, which were obtained by the onboard equipment of the French microsatellite DEMETER when it passed through the magnetic flux tube based on a region modified by high-power HF radio emission of the EISCAT ...

The possibilities of using heating facilities as HF radars by including in the time schedule of their radiation short powerful radio pulses are demonstrated. These pulses are used for the amplitude-phase sounding of the disturbed volume of the ionosphere and the generation of diagnostic stimulated electromagnetic emission, which allows for a ...

We present the results of spectral analysis of temporal variations in the Doppler frequency shift of the ionosphere-reflected signals from a high-frequency vertical ionospheric sounding radar located near the city of Kharkov in the days of exposure of the ionospheric plasma to the high-power radio emission of the Sura facility (Nizhny Novgorod) and in ...

We report on the French DEMETER and American DMSP satellite measurements of largescale field-aligned plasma-density perturbations (ducts) induced in the topside ionosphere by the ionospheric F 2-layer pumping by means of high-power HF radio waves from the “Sura” heating facility.

Evolution of ion distribution functions in ionospheric plasmas perturbed by Alfvén waves
It is well known that electromagnetic (EM) processes can affect the trapped population of ionized particles in the Earth’s radiation belts and induce particle precipitations that can be measured by satellites. Moreover, in the last decades, several studies have suggested the concurrent occurrence of energetic particle flux variations (the so ...Dario Recchiuti +8 more
