Antiviral Activities of Photoactive Perylenequinones
AbstractNine perylenequinones (PQ), including some familiar naturally occurring pigments, were compared for their light‐mediated antiviral efficacies. Calphostin C was the most active compound against the two target viruses, herpes simplex virus type 1 and Sindbis virus. Hypo‐crellins A and B were also very active.

Naturally occurring perylenequinones.
Perylenequinones, together with a few compounds containing a partially reduced perylene skeleton, form a relatively small but rapidly increasing group of chemically interesting, biologically active pigments obtainable from natural sources.

Photodynamic Perylenequinones, Photodemethylation and Photooxidation of Dimethylcercosporin
AbstractRegiospecific photodemethylation of the perylenequinone dimethylcercosporin (DMC0 (2) in methanol involved the two methoxy groups in ortho position to the carbonyl quinone functions, affording 2,11‐dihydroxy‐3,10‐perylenequinone (3) and the dihydrofuran‐containing derivative 4.

Some Synthetic Studies Related to Perylenequinones
Liebigs Annalen Der Chemie, 1993AbstractTwo closely related routes to dimethyl 3,10‐dihydro‐2,11‐dihydroxy‐4,6,7,9‐tetramethoxy‐3,10‐dioxo‐1,12‐perylenediacetate (10), one involving Ullmann phenol coupling and the other by double oxidative coupling are described. Regioselective demethylation of 10 followed by methylation or vice versa yields dimethyl 3,10‐dihydro‐4,9‐dihydroxy‐2,6,7 ...

Photophysics, photochemistry, and reactivity: Molecular aspects of perylenequinone reactions
Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) were used to elucidate the photochemistry and photophysics of eight different perylenequinones (PQ). The objective of this work has been to quantitatively investigate the photodynamic therapeutic potential of this family of compounds and give an overview of their ...
