The Effect of Partial Crop Harvest on Biological Pest Control

open access: yesRocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics, 2008
In this paper, the effects of periodic partial harvesting of a continuously grown crop on augmentative biological control are analyzed. Partial harvesting can remove a proportion of both pests and biological control agents, so its influence on the control efficiency cannot be a priori neglected.

Transmission Success of Entomopathogenic Nematodes Used in Pest Control

open access: yesInsects, 2018
Entomopathogenic nematodes from the two genera Steinernema and Heterorhabditis are widely used as biological agents against various insect pests and represent a promising alternative to replace pesticides.

BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF AGRICULTURAL PESTS BY FILAMENTOUS FUNGI [PDF]

open access: yesActa Microbiologica et Immunologica Hungarica, 1999
Agricultural use of chemical pesticides has polluted the environment and resulted in resistance among the target organisms. The chemical strategies of pest control are dangerous to both the nontarget organisms in natural habitats and human health.

Stabilization with target oriented control for higher order difference equations [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Lett. A 379 (2015), no. 16-17, 1102-1109, 2016
For a physical or biological model whose dynamics is described by a higher order difference equation $u_{n+1}=f(u_n,u_{n-1}, \dots, u_{n-k+1})$, we propose a version of a target oriented control $u_{n+1}=cT+(1-c)f(u_n,u_{n-1}, \dots, u_{n-k+1})$, with $T\ge 0$, $c\in [0,1)$.

Investigating Social Immunity in Swarming Locusts via a Triple Animal–Robot–Pathogen Hybrid Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study explores social immunity in gregarious locusts using a groundbreaking animal–robot–pathogen interaction model. By comparing locust responses to biomimetic agents mimicking healthy and infected individuals, significant behavioral changes are revealed.

Improving Pest Monitoring Networks in order to reduce pesticide use in agriculture [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Disease and pest control largely rely on pesticides use and progress still remains to be made towards more sustainable practices. Pest Monitoring Networks (PMNs) can provide useful information for improving crop protection by restricting pesticide use to the situations that best require it.

Applying the NIOSH Worker Well‐Being Framework to Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers: Insights From the Literature

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background There is a growing appreciation of the importance of health and well‐being and of the complex set of factors, within and outside the workplace, that interact to affect the well‐being of workers. Migrant and seasonal farmworkers experience particular challenges, and measurement of factors that influence their health and well‐being is
