Chemical Composition and Synergistic Antimicrobial Effects of Essential Oils From Four Commonly Used Satureja Species in Combination With Two Conventional Antibiotics

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
The chemical composition and the in vitro synergistic antimicrobial effects of four Satureja essential oils were investigated. Essential oils from Satureja montana and S. hortensis displayed strong antimicrobial effects, whereas S. calamintha and S. alpina exhibited relatively weaker antimicrobial activity.

New Terpenoids from Viguiera dentata: In Silico Pesticide‐Likeness Properties, Acetylcholinesterase Inhibition, Molecular Docking, and Evaluation against Spodoptera frugiperda

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
The chemical analysis of aerial parts of the melliferous Viguiera dentata led to the isolation of 20 substances, including the new cycloartanes 24‐epi‐argentatin C, 7β‐hydroxy‐24‐epi‐argentatin C, 7β‐hydroxy‐argentatin B. In‐combo results indicated that specific argentatins and ent‐kaurenoic acids have the potential to control Spodoptera frugiperda ...

Basic offspring number and robust feedback design for the biological control of vectors by sterile insect release technique [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) is a promising control method against insect pests and insect vectors. It consists in releasing males previously sterilized in laboratory, in order to reduce or eliminate a specific wild population. We study in this paper the implementation by feedback control of SIT-based elimination campaign of Aedes mosquitoes.

Biological control of vertebrate pests

open access: yes, 1967
This paper provides an in-depth understanding of the concept of biological control (biocontrol). In doing so, it interprets important biological principles of control methodology, and it intercalates these discussions with analysis of the biological backlashes and other ecological interactions that may be created whenever vertebrate “pests” are control

Inhibition of Surfactin Biosynthesis in Bacillus Subtilis Using Cell‐Permeable Adenylation Domain Inhibitors

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
L‐Leu‐AMS‐based adenylation domain inhibitors with the modification of 2′‐OH in the adenosine skeleton are synthesized. Coupled with affinity‐based protein profiling of nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs), their activities toward surfactin‐NRPSs in Bacillus subtilis are evaluated.

A Reexamination of CO2 Reduction with Fe2S2 Hydrogenase Mimics: Lessons in Using a Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Catalyst for CO2 to Formate Catalysis

open access: yesChemElectroChem, EarlyView.
Combining cyclic voltammetry, infrared spectroelectrochemistry, and density functional theory methods, the reduction of CO2 by an [FeFe] hydrogenase mimic was examined. Despite its ability to form stable reduced hydride species, this catalyst does not selectively reduce CO2 to HCOO− under the tested conditions.

Highly Shielded Peroxo‐Cerium(IV)‐Containing Polyoxometalate: Synthesis, Structure, and Oxidative Studies

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
The peroxo‐di‐cerium(IV)‐di‐lithium‐containing 32‐tungsto‐4‐phosphate [(CeIV2O2)Li2(P2W16O59)2]16− (Ce2Li2P4W32) is synthesized and structurally characterized. This peroxo‐polyanion demonstrates remarkable stability in solution across a broad pH range.

Synthesis of C4‐Acyl Glycosides by Cross‐Ketonization: The Importance of Precise Temperature Control in Photochemistry

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The direct synthesis of reversed C‐glycosides from carboxylic acid building blocks is enabled by metallaphotoredox cross‐ketonization. Precise temperature control is essential for matching the rates of the photoredox and Ni catalytic processes, an understudied factor in photoredox chemistry that could be critical in the study of other dual‐catalytic ...
