EXPOSURE OF GREENHOUSE WORKERS TO PESTICIDES
Acta Horticulturae, 2014Greenhouse workers constitute a particularly interesting group, as their exposure to pesticides is not only greater in comparison to outdoor agricultural workers, but also occurs continuously throughout the whole year. In the present paper the dermal and inhalation exposure of greenhouse workers after pesticides application was evaluated based on ...

Hair as a marker for pesticides exposure
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part B, 2011Rats were orally treated with mixtures of chlorinated pesticides. Hair was collected and analyzed for pesticide residues over a period of up to four weeks. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the recovered pesticides in hair were determined using gas chromatography with electron capture detector.

Conservatism in Pesticide Exposure Assessment
Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2000Three important factors are commonly encountered in exposure assessment that when combined could overestimate the exposure to pesticides by as much as two orders of magnitude. The three factors discussed are dermal absorption from laboratory animal studies, daily dose extrapolated from partial day monitoring, and nonbolus dose from dermal or inhalation

Pesticide exposure—Indian scene
Toxicology, 2004Use of pesticides in India began in 1948 when DDT was imported for malaria control and BHC for locust control. India started pesticide production with manufacturing plant for DDT and benzene hexachloride (BHC) (HCH) in the year 1952. In 1958, India was producing over 5000 metric tonnes of pesticides.

Effects of occupational pesticide exposure on children applying pesticides
NeuroToxicology, 2008Nearly 40% of the Egyptian workforce is employed in agriculture. The cotton industry relies on children and adolescents, who work seasonally, to apply pesticides to the cotton crops. Although previous research has examined adult pesticide exposures in this workforce in Egypt, no research has examined the health effects in adolescents.

Estimation of long‐term exposure to pesticides
American Journal of Industrial Medicine, 1994AbstractQuantifying the exposure of agricultural workers to pesticides is difficult in the face of the heterogeneity of the pesticides used, the variability in methods of application, and the lack of adequate exposure data. This report describes an attempt to estimate long‐term dermal and inhalation exposure of bulb farmers by the development of an ...

Assessing Human Exposures to Pesticides
1992Pesticide use is inevitably associated with chemical exposures that range from inferred nondetectable levels to easily measurable ones using sensitive, readily available analytical tools. Whether these exposures are of any biological significance is determined by duration, dose, and biological reactivity.

Pesticide exposure—Egyptian scene
Toxicology, 2004Pesticides have contributed to dramatic increases in crop yields and in the quantity and variety of the diet. Also, they have helped to limit the spread of certain diseases. But pesticides have harmful effects; they can cause injury to human health as well as to the environment.

Neurotoxic concerns of human pesticide exposure
Journal of Safety Research, 1990AbstractWhile the human effects of acute pesticide poisoning are well known, significant data gaps exist with regard to what is known about some of the chronic effects, particularly neurotoxic and behavioral aspects of organophosphate exposures. The extent of this concern is particularly high in Europe where these issues are being addressed by the ...
