[The mitotic and meiotic chromosomes of the tropical fish Petenia splendida (Cichlidae)].
The karyotype of bay snook, Petenia splendida, is described based on mitotic and meiotic stages of sixty larvae and twelve juveniles from Tabasco, Mexico. Standard cytological procedures with minor modifications were followed to obtain mitotic and meiotic chromosome spreads.

AbstractThe possibility of inducing sex reversal in bay snook, Petenia splendida, was evaluated to generate a protocol aimed at producing single‐sex populations (100% males) and improving farming conditions for this species. This popular staple food is a cichlid fish native to Central America, with aquaculture potential.

Abstract Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the initial stocking density in larvae of Bay snook, Petenia splendida, and Mexican mojarra, Cichlasoma urophthalmus, using a recirculation system. Five initial stocking densities (0.5, 1, 5, 10, and 20 larvae/L) were evaluated by triplicate for 45 d.
