Multi‐Stage Growth of Kyanite in Migmatites Interpreted by Integrating Forward Thermodynamic Modelling and Trace Element Signature

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, Volume 43, Issue 4, Page 315-339, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Trace element zoning in kyanite can retain information about its growth history, particularly in anatectic metapelites. There, kyanite can grow (i) at sub‐solidus conditions through metamorphic reactions involving other aluminous phases as reactants, (ii) through muscovite dehydration melting reactions, and (iii) during cooling and melt ...

Metamorphic modeling and petrochronology of metapelitic rocks from the Luminárias Nappe, southern Brasília belt (SE Brazil)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Geology
The Luminárias Nappe was formed in the agglutination of West Gondwana. A high-pressure metamorphic gradient oblique to the geological contacts is recorded in metapelitic rocks from this Nappe.

The magmatic–hydrothermal transition record in zircon: implications for zircon texture, composition and rare-metal granite dating (Beauvoir granite, French Massif Central) [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mineralogy
Zircon petrochronology is widely used to quantify the age and duration of magma emplacement and differentiation. However, in highly differentiated magmas, such as those forming rare-metal granites, zircon may form at the magmatic–hydrothermal transition,

Petrochronology of High‐Pressure Veins Reveals the Evolution of Fluid Sources in Subducted Oceanic Crust (Rocciavrè Eclogites, W. Alps)

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 225-256, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The Rocciavrè massif is a large eclogitized ophiolitic fragment exposed in the Western Alps (Piemonte, Italy) exhibiting an almost complete sequence of the subducted Liguro‐Piemont lithosphere. Raman spectroscopy on carbonaceous material in metasediments from Rocciavrè and the juxtaposed Orsiera massif indicates maximum temperatures in the ...

Polyphase Metamorphism of the Northern Rae Craton (Baffin Island, Arctic Canada) and Trace Element Behaviour in Monazite: Insights From Phase Equilibria Modelling and Geochronology

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 287-314, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Integrated field mapping, phase equilibria modelling and in situ U–Pb monazite geochronology from the northern margin of the Rae craton on Baffin Island document three metamorphic events during the Neoarchean to the middle Paleoproterozoic.

Zircon Solubility, Metamict ZrSiO4 Replacement, and Hydrothermal Zircon Formation at Upper Crustal Pressures

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract Stable and inert under most conditions, zircon can be dissolved and precipitated by aqueous fluids in the upper crust. Geochemical models using currently available thermodynamic properties for Zr aqueous species at 0.2 GPa predict that zircon solubility increases with temperature from 400 to 900°C in fluids saturated with quartz or baddeleyite.

Paleozoic Episodic Magmatism in Western Tianshan: Insight Into Assembling the Northeastern Pangea

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
The late‐stage union of Pangea was associated with the convergence of Siberia with Laurussia, but the exact timing remains unclear. The orogenic duration of the Kazakhstan block can provide geochronological constraints as it connects Siberia, Baltica ...

Multiple Metamorphic Stages within an Eclogite-facies Terrane (Sesia Zone, Western Alps) Revealed by Th-U-Pb Petrochronology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Convergent plate margins typically experience a transition from subduction to collision dynamics as massive continental blocks enter the subduction channel. Studies of high-pressure rocks indicate that tectonic fragments are rapidly exhumed from eclogite

Insights Into Magma Reservoir Dynamics From a Global Comparison of Volcanic and Plutonic Zircon Trace Element Variability in Individual Hand Samples

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 25, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract Trace element compositional trends in zircons separated from single hand samples have been used to infer dynamic processes in magma reservoirs. Here, we compile published zircon trace element chemistry to quantify any systematic difference between the range of compositions observed in zircon from individual volcanic and plutonic hand samples ...

Slip History, Tectonic Evolution, and Fault Zone Structure Along the Southern Alpine Fault, New Zealand

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 25, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract The study of active fault zones is fundamental to understanding both long‐term tectonics and short‐term earthquake behavior. Here, we integrate lidar‐enabled geomorphic‐geologic mapping and petrochronological analysis to reveal the slip‐history, tectonic evolution, and structure of the southern Alpine Fault in New Zealand.
