Digital Applications in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage, 2015Abstract In this paper, we address the problem of automated petroglyph classification in a large real-world dataset. The dataset which contains more than 1000 petroglyphs is based on tracings from the UNESCO world heritage site Valcamonica, Italy and is expert-classified into two parallel typologies.

The Surkhandarya Oasis is located in the extreme south of Uzbekistan and is one of its oldest historical and cultural regions. Its natural boundaries in the west and east are the Kugitang and Babatag Mountain Ranges, in the north it is bordered by the Hissar Range and its numerous spurs, in the south by the Amu Darya River.
