Pitch and petroleum coke additions to coke oven charges
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1980AbstractSeveral pitch materials and a petroleum coke were added to coke oven charges in an attempt to make good metallurgical coke from Canadian coal of poor coking quality. Coal and petroleum pitches were added to a low fluid western Canadian coal of medium volatile bituminous rank, and the blends coked in a technical‐scale moveable wall test oven ...

Oxidation studies of various petroleum cokes
Carbon, 1987Abstract In situ scanning transmission electron microscopy has been used to evaluate various coke samples ranging from very Isotropic to ultrapremium needle-like in terms of their oxidation characteristics. Three major modes of attack were identified: 1. a) low-temperature (375°C) shallow pitting, which predominated in isotropic materials 2.

MICROSTRUCTURE OF PETROLEUM COKE AS CARBURIZER
2010As a carburizer in foundries, regular quality petroleum coke is often used. The selection of a carburizer depends upon many factors, the most important of which are the microstructure. This paper investigates the microstructure of commercial petroleum coke with increasing sulphur content as potential carburizing material in iron-carbon alloys ...

Calcining petroleum coke in ring furnace
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils, 19741. The process of calcining has been studied for total petroleum coke (size 0–60 mm) and breeze (0–15 mm) in an experimental ring furnace. 2. It has been shown that the ring furnace can be used successfully to calcine any size grade of petroleum coke produced by delayed coking. 3.

The reaction of petroleum cokes with air
Carbon, 1987Abstract A procedure for studying the reaction between petroleum cokes and air under chemically controlled conditions is described. Following Walker et al.[9], the weight loss curves were normalized by the use of a reduced time τ = t t 1 2 . A unique curve was not obtained for different cokes, as was the case with coal chars.

Structural properties of petroleum coke
Nafta : exploration, production, processing, petrochemistry, 2007Depending on its quality, petroleum coke could be used as a source of fuel, as anode in the electrolysis, in the graphite industry, as high purity reactant and in the preparation of carbon artifacts. Coking of petroleum residue involves pyrolytic reactionsand rearrangements that produce free radicals, which can recombine through condensation and ...
