Phylogeny of respiratory adaptations and local temperature extremes shape the thermal vulnerability of intertidal crabs

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 10, Page 2637-2655, October 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Climate change is expected to significantly impact coastal populations worldwide. The macrophysiological factors that determine the upper thermal limits (UTL) of intertidal ectotherms, however, remain poorly understood.

Variation in thermal tolerance plasticity and the costs of heat exposure in the estuarine sea hare, Phyllaplysia taylori

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2025.
Abstract Climate change is increasing average temperatures and the frequency and intensity of thermal extremes in coastal marine environments. Organisms in coastal marine habitats are accustomed to environmental fluctuations and possess physiological plasticity that may be advantageous in response to increased occurrence of extremes. To examine whether

Molecular Evaluation of the Mating Dynamics of Snow Crab (Chionoecetes opilio) in the Eastern Bering Sea

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2024.
Most snow crab females in the eastern Bering Sea had stored sperm from one or two mates. While single paternity was common, some females had clutches sired by two males. Female snow crab primarily mated with male snow crab, with few instances of interspecies mating.

First record of Petrolisthes virgatus Paul'son, 1875 (Crustacea, Decapoda, Anomura, Porcellanidae) from the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, Iran

open access: yesNauplius
Recent marine expeditions to the Abu-Musa Island (in the Persian Gulf) and Gulf of Oman yielded a first record of the porcelain crab Petrolisthes virgatus Paul'son, 1875, that had not been recorded from these water bodies.

Climate‐related variation of metabolic rate across the distribution of a broadly tolerant invasive forest pest

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 51, Issue 6, Page 1117-1132, June 2024.
Abstract Aim Metabolic rate is a widely studied physiological species trait related to energetics, climate, and geographical distributions. Hypotheses have been proposed to explain variation in metabolic rate, but evidence has been mixed due to the limited sampling scope of intraspecific studies.

Composition of decapod crustacean assemblages in beds of Pinctada imbricata and Arca zebra (Mollusca: Bivalvia) in Cubagua Island, Venezuela: Effect of bed density

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2012
Beds of the Atlantic pearl oyster (Pinctada imbricata) and the turkey wing (Arca zebra) of contrasting population densities were evaluated to determine the occurrence of associated decapod crustaceans.
