How the Sima de los Huesos was won

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 307, Issue 7, Page 2225-2245, July 2024.
Abstract Although the first discovery of a human fossil in the Sima de los Huesos took place in 1976, systematic excavations did not begin there until 1984. Since then, this site has been continuously excavated in month‐long camps. The site is dated by different radiometric techniques to between 430,000 and 300,000 years ago.

Ornamental granite durability: evaluation of damage caused by salt crystallization

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 2008
The salt crystallization test is used to evaluate damage caused by soluble salts that penetrate stone and subsequently crystallize in its voids (pores or cracks). The present article discusses the findings for four ornamental granites (gris alba, grissal,

Volcanic Unrest After the 2021 Eruption of La Palma

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 51, Issue 11, 16 June 2024.
Abstract La Palma, Canary Islands, had its largest historical eruption in 2021. From January 2022 to May 2023 there were >2,100 seismic events, primarily at depths ≤20 km, prompting us to update the deformation and modeling study, using interferometric synthetic aperture radar observations and a last generation interpretation tool.

Revisión crítica del ensayo de cristalización de sales

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 1987
The salt crystallisation test is, for its simplicity and aggressivity, one of the most suitable ageing tests to evaluate the durability of rock materials.

Magmatic Storage and Volatile Fluxes of the 2021 La Palma Eruption

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 25, Issue 6, June 2024.
Abstract The 2021 La Palma eruption (Tajogaite) was unprecedented in magnitude, duration, and degree of monitoring compared to historical volcanism on La Palma. Here, we provide data on melt inclusions in samples from the beginning and end of the eruption to compare the utility of both melt and fluid inclusions as recorders of magma storage.

Enhancing Nitrate Removal With Industrial Wine Residue: Insights From Laboratory Batch and Column Experiments Using Chemical, Isotopic and Numerical Modeling Tools

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 60, Issue 5, May 2024.
Abstract Agricultural run‐off exposes recipient water bodies to nitrate (NO3−) pollution. Biological denitrification is a suitable method for removing NO3− in water resources that can be induced by the use of industrial organic liquid waste as an electron donor source.

Influence of petrographical characterístics in the penetration of consolidants in porous building stones

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 1993
This paper describes a study of the penetration capacity of a consolidant frequently used in restoration —ethyl silicate— applied to two monumental stones with different porosities and pore geometries: the Hontoria limestone (Burgos) and the Laspra ...

Relaciones entre porosidad, contenido en arcillas y durabilidad de areniscas

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 1985
The petrographical characterization of three spanish sandstones from Villamayor (Salamanca), Somió and Tazones (Asturias) is presented. The significance of the percentage and type of the clay minerals cementing the grains on the pore system geometry, for
