Revealing patterns of endemism in the transatlantic family Chelodesmidae (Polydesmida: Diplopoda)

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract With fossil records dating back to the Silurian/Late Ordovician, millipedes stand out as one of the earliest terrestrial animal groups. Their limited vagility and high endemism make them valuable tools for formulating and testing biogeographic hypotheses, including those related to macro‐vicariance events.

Where water meets rock: Ecological niches and diversity hotspots of hygropetric beetles in the Neotropics

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
First continental‐scale synthesis of hygropetric beetle diversity and distribution across Neotropical highlands. Climatic and topographic gradients structure regional assemblages and niche overlap. Ecological convergence suggests adaptation to similar conditions across disjunct regions.

New Magnetite Reference Material for SIMS δ18O Measurements and a Study of Precision and Accuracy Due to Crystal Orientation Effects

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, EarlyView.
Key Points A new magnetite reference material (PF21mt) is available for δ18O measurements by SIMS. Reproducibility of measurement results in two laboratories suggest orientation bias of ±2‰ (2s) at 20 keV. Repeatability improves to ±1‰ (2s) when using a 13 keV protocol, suggesting reduced orientation bias. In situ isotope ratio measurements provide the

Aquitardifer: A New Hydrogeologic Term for Geologic Materials with both Aquitard and Aquifer Properties

open access: yesGroundwater, EarlyView.
Abstract We propose that a new term, aquitardifer, be added to the hydrogeologic nomenclature. Aquitardifer, a blend of the terms aquitard and aquifer, accounts for geologic materials that have properties of both as traditionally defined. Several examples of aquitardifers are provided, as is justification for and applicability of the term.
