Plasma cells in the ammocoete of Petromyzon marinus

Cell And Tissue Research, 1981
This study demonstrates for the first time the presence of mature and developing plasma cells in the spleen of non-immunized ammocoetes of Petromyzon marinus. Plasmocytes occur as electron-dense cells with much condensed chromatin and an extensively large developed and dilated rough endoplasmic reticulum. The importance of this finding is emphasized in

Plasma steroids in the ammocoete of Petromyzon marinus

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1984
Radioimmunoassays revealed the presence of the following steroids (or immunoreactive steroid fractions) in the plasma of larval sea lampreys: progesterone, corticosterone, cortisol, androstenedione, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, estrone, and estradiol. Several types of stress served to provoke the release of these substances.

Ultrastructure of sinus venosus innervation in Petromyzon marinus

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1973
Sections of the sinus venosus from the young adult Petromyzon marinus revealed the presence of numerous axon profiles. These nonmyelinated axons are bound singly or in multiples within Schwann cell sheaths. At points of neuromuscular association, the axon protrudes from an incomplete Schwann cell investment and approaches within 40–50 nm of adjacent ...

Glycoprotein Hormone Receptors in the Sea Lamprey Petromyzon marinus

Zoological Science, 2008
Secretion of the pituitary glycoprotein hormones (GpH) follitropin, lutropin, and thyrotropin in vertebrates is the main mechanism by which neuroendocrine signals are propagated at the level of the peripheral glands, gonads and thyroid. Receptors of these hormones (glycoprotein hormone receptors, GpH-R) evolved from a common ancestor through gene ...

THE OLFACTORY APPARATUS OF PETROMYZON MARINUS L.

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1960
The olfactory organ of Petromyzon marinus was studied anatomically and histologically in adult and larval forms and compared with that of related cyclostomes as reported in the literature. The single olfactory organ of this species consists of three parts: the nasal tube, the olfactory sac, and a nasopharyngeal pouch.
