Bereavement issues and prolonged grief disorder: A global perspective

open access: yesCambridge Prisms: Global Mental Health, 2023
The death of a loved one – bereavement – is a universal experience that marks the human mental health condition. Grief – the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral responses to bereavement – is thus experienced by virtually everyone at some point in life ...

Effects of Tributyltin Chloride on Human Neuronal Differentiation and Mice Brain Development

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT According to the developmental origins of health and disease hypothesis, perinatal exposure to an environmental toxicant during the development of the nervous system could cause a permanent cellular modification that may promote the appearance of neurodegenerative diseases at an older age.

Analysis of Primary Graft Dysfunction (PGD) Risk Factors in Lung Transplantation (LuTx) Patients

open access: yesClinics and Practice
Background: Primary graft dysfunction (PGD) is a form of acute lung injury (ALI) that occurs within 72 h after lung transplantation (LuTx) and is the most common early complication of the procedure.

Defense against Adversarial Attacks Using High-Level Representation Guided Denoiser

open access: yes, 2018
Neural networks are vulnerable to adversarial examples, which poses a threat to their application in security sensitive systems. We propose high-level representation guided denoiser (HGD) as a defense for image classification.

Functional validation of a white pupae minimal gene construct in Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae)

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
An intronless version of the white pupae (wp) gene was engineered to restore the wild type brown puparium color in white pupae phenotype mutants of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata. Functionality of the minimal gene version (mini‐wp) was verified in vivo, as one copy of mini‐wp successfully restored the wild type phenotype in homozygous ...

Molecular mechanisms of sex determination in Lepidoptera: current status and perspectives

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The genetic basis of sex determination in Lepidoptera was discovered in 2014 in the silkworm Bombyx mori. In this model species, the W chromosome‐derived small piRNA called Fem piRNA downregulates the expression of a Z‐linked gene, Masculinizer (Masc), which leads to the default female‐specific splicing of the doublesex gene (dsxF) and thus to female ...

Agrimoniin Alleviates Ferroptosis in Cold‐Stored DCD Liver Grafts Through Activation of the Nrf‐2 Pathway

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Supplementing the liver preservation solution with agrimoniin protects donation after cardiac death (DCD) grafts by activating the Nrf‐2 pathway. This reduces ferroptosis, oxidative stress, and inflammation during cold storage, significantly improving graft viability.
