Vacancy‐Induced Z‐Contrast Anomaly in Self‐Assembled (Ti,V)O2 Heterostructure

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This study investigates the unexpectedly high contrast observed in ADF‐STEM imaging of spinodal decomposed (Ti,V)O2 heterostructure. In situ heating, GPA, and EELS analyses reveal that oxygen vacancies accumulate in V‐rich layers due to facilitated vacancy migration along [001]R pathways during phase separation by spontaneous ionic diffusion.

Properties of Cryptosystem PGM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A cryptographic system, called PGM, was invented in the late 1970's by S. Magliveras. PGM is based on the prolific existence of certain kinds of factorization sets, called logarithmic signatures, for finite permutation groups. Logarithmic signatures were initially motivated by C. Sims' bases and strong generators.

Emerging p‐Block Metal‐Based Electrocatalysts for Energy Conversion

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
P‐block metal‐based catalysts have emerged as efficient and sustainable alternatives to precious metal electrocatalysts for energy conversion. This review comprehensively surveys diverse p‐block metal‐based architectures—including anisotropic and homogeneous systems—and systematically elucidates their roles in key electrocatalytic reactions, such as ...

Bimetallic Bismuth‐Based Nanoparticles From Pseudo‐Tetrahedral Zintl Anions

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Bismuth‐based Zintl anions are explored as precursors for synthesizing bimetallic nanoparticles with tunable compositions and morphologies, including alloyed, core–shell, and Janus types. The resulting nanoparticles display composition‐dependent UV absorption.

Unsupervised Work Behavior Pattern Extraction Based on Hierarchical Probabilistic Model

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
In this study, we address the challenge of analyzing worker behaviors in high‐mix, low‐volume production environments, where traditional supervised learning methods struggle owing to the lack of labeled data and task variability among workers. To overcome these issues, we propose a novel hierarchical approach for unsupervised behavior pattern ...

Erratic behavior of platinum-group elements along an olivine–Cr-spinel cotectic in sulfide-undersaturated basaltic magma: roles of Cr-spinel and alloys

open access: yesScientific Reports
The behavior of platinum-group elements (PGE) in sulfide-undersaturated primitive magmas may be controlled by crystallization of either Cr-spinel, platinum-group minerals (PGM) or olivine.

Development of Microsatellite Markers for Ex Situ Management of the Harpy Eagle Using Next Generation Sequencing

open access: yesZoo Biology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja), one of the largest birds of prey in the world, is threatened with extinction throughout its entire area of occurrence in the Neotropics. While conservation efforts for the wild populations are crucial, it is also important to focus on ex situ conservation actions.

2D‐RIXS: resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering microscopy with high energy and spatial resolutions

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
A resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering microscopy system with a spatial resolution of 1.0 µm combined with ultrahigh energy resolution in the soft X‐ray regime has been established.A two‐dimensional resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering (2D‐RIXS) microscopy system has been developed at beamline BL02U of NanoTerasu.

Deposition of platinum-group metals in sediment and water bodies along the coastal belt of Ghana [PDF]

open access: yesMaejo International Journal of Science and Technology, 2011
Water and sediment samples from seven water bodies along the coastal belt of Ghana were assessed for the deposition of platinum-group metals (PGM), i.e. platinum, palladium and rhodium.
