Boosting Biomass Quantity and Quality by Improved Mixotrophic Culture of the Diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Diatoms are photoautotrophic unicellular algae and are among the most abundant, adaptable, and diverse marine phytoplankton. They are extremely interesting not only for their ecological role but also as potential feedstocks for sustainable biofuels and ...

Growth Rate of Phaeodactylum tricornutum.

open access: yesKAGAKU KOGAKU RONBUNSHU, 1991

Evolution and regulation of nitrogen flux through compartmentalized metabolic networks in a marine diatom

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Here, using the diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum as a model organism, the authors combine functional genomics, phylogenetics, and metabolic modeling to describe how diatoms might have functionally integrated nitrogen metabolism during evolution and how ...

Environmental risk assessment of triazine herbicides in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea and their toxicity to phytoplankton at environmental concentrations

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2019
Herbicides have been increasingly used worldwide and a large amount of herbicide residue eventually enters the ocean via groundwater or surface run-off every year.

Investigating mixotrophic metabolism in the model diatomPhaeodactylum tricornutum [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2017
Diatoms are prominent marine microalgae, interesting not only from an ecological point of view, but also for their possible use in biotechnology applications. They can be cultivated in phototrophic conditions, using sunlight as the sole energy source.

Domoic Acid Oxidative Effects on the Microalgae Phaeodactylum tricornutum

open access: yesLife, 2023
Domoic acid (DA) is a natural occurring marine biotoxin. Oxidative stress generation due to DA exposure was reported in animals, but little is known on the phytoplankton community. The aim of this work was to verify whether exposure to DA in the marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum favors reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in the intracellular

Action Spectrum of Photoinhibition in the Diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum [PDF]

open access: yesPlant and Cell Physiology, 2017
Light-dependent electron transfer is necessary for photosynthesis, but light also damages PSII. Light-induced damage to PSII is called photoinhibition, and the damaging reactions of photoinhibition are still under debate. Diatoms possess an exotic combination of light-harvesting pigments, Chls a/c and fucoxanthin, making them an interesting platform ...

Extrachromosomal genetic engineering of the marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum enables the heterologous production of monoterpenoids.

open access: yesACS Synthetic Biology, 2020
Geraniol is a commercially-relevant plant-derived monoterpenoid that is a main component of rose essential oil and used as insect repellent. Geraniol is also a key intermediate compound in the biosynthesis of the monoterpenoid indole alkaloids (MIAs), a ...

Multiplex CRISPR/Cas9 editing of the long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase family in the diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum reveals that mitochondrial ptACSL3 is involved in the synthesis of storage lipids.

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2021
Long-chain acyl-CoA synthetases (LACSs) play diverse and fundamentally important roles in lipid metabolism. While their functions have been well-established in bacteria, yeast and plants, the mechanisms by which LACS isozymes regulate lipid metabolism in
