Genomic Insights Into the Treponema Genus: Taxonomic Resolution of Treponema vincentii and Description of Two Novel Species, Treponema plautii sp. nov. and Treponema sinense sp. nov.

open access: yesMolecular Oral Microbiology, Volume 41, Issue 1, Page 26-37, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Periodontal disease, a global health concern, is strongly associated with oral treponemes. However, the taxonomy of some species remains unresolved, hindering our understanding of their roles in disease. This study aims to clarify the taxonomy of three strains isolated from patients with periodontal disease using phylogenomic and ...

Deregulated enhancer‐promoter communication in cancer through altered nuclear architecture

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 2, Page 409-422, 15 January 2026.
Abstract Enhancers are critical regulators of gene expression. Structural variations in cancer genomes can lead to enhancer hijacking, where oncogenes are activated by mistargeted enhancer activity. Novel enhancer‐promoter interactions may also arise through chromosomal rearrangements that create extrachromosomal DNA elements.

Identification of amino acids essential for angulin‐1/3 binding of the tricellular tight junction binder, angubindin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 1, Page 116-126, January 2026.
Angubindin‐1 binds angulin‐1/‐3 at tricellular tight junctions, enhancing intestinal macromolecule permeation. Alanine scanning identified six essential residues (L562, L598, E638, V640, Y643, and K644) of angubindin‐1 critical for binding to angulin‐1/‐3 and permeation‐enhancing activity, providing insights for the development of targeted noninvasive ...
