Phakic intraocular Lens implantation in keratoconus patients

European Journal of Ophthalmology, 2023
Background Both the anterior chamber and posterior chamber phakic intraocular lenses (pIOLs) implantation are acceptable refractive surgical approaches in keratoconus patients with high anisometropia, contact lens intolerance, or who prefer spectacle and contact lens independent.

Posterior Chamber Silicone Phakic Intraocular Lens

Journal of Refractive Surgery, 1997
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: We investigated the efficacy, safety, and stability of correction achieved with a silicone posterior chamber intraocular lens used to correct high myopia in phakic eyes. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A silicone posterior chamber plate-style intraocular lens (Chiron, Adatomed) was implanted in 38 consecutive phakic eyes ...

Phakic Intraocular Lens in Keratoconus

2021
Keratoconus remains a significant cause of blindness worldwide. Despite advances in slowing the progression of keratoconus, addressing residual refractive error remains challenging. The introduction of phakic intraocular lenses allows the option of a reversible procedure that maintains accommodation.

Phakic posterior chamber intraocular lens pupillary block

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2002
A 49-year-old woman developed bilateral pupillary block after implantation of a phakic posterior chamber intraocular lens despite patent-appearing but nonfunctional peripheral iridotomies. This case serves as a basis to identify clinical signs that distinguish this diagnosis from other causes of elevated intraocular pressure and types of pupillary ...

Refractive lens exchange versus phakic intraocular lenses

Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 2012
To review the evidential basis of current practice in refractive lens exchange (RLE) vs. phakic intraocular lens (pIOL).Visual outcomes after pIOLs are better than RLE. With RLE, there still remain risks of retinal detachment, cystoid macular oedema, glare, halos and posterior capsule opacification.

Intraocular lens implantation in phakic rabbit eyes

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1989
Three sizes (13.5 mm, 17.5 mm, and 18.5 mm) of open loop, one piece, poly(methyl methacrylate) anterior chamber intraocular lenses (IOLs) were implanted in 12 phakic rabbit eyes to evaluate the effect of the IOL on the crystalline lens and the anterior chamber. Six eyes were used as a control group. Minimum follow-up was four weeks.

Cataract surgery following phakic intraocular lens implantation

Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 2010
To review the most recent literature regarding the incidence and pathophysiology of phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) associated cataracts, surgical issues and outcomes of combined pIOL explantation/cataract surgery, and the prevention of cataract formation secondary to pIOLs.The overall rate of cataracts secondary to pIOLs is low, but a disproportionate ...
