Refractive lens exchange versus phakic intraocular lenses

Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 2012
To review the evidential basis of current practice in refractive lens exchange (RLE) vs. phakic intraocular lens (pIOL).Visual outcomes after pIOLs are better than RLE. With RLE, there still remain risks of retinal detachment, cystoid macular oedema, glare, halos and posterior capsule opacification.

Intraocular lens implantation in phakic rabbit eyes

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1989
Three sizes (13.5 mm, 17.5 mm, and 18.5 mm) of open loop, one piece, poly(methyl methacrylate) anterior chamber intraocular lenses (IOLs) were implanted in 12 phakic rabbit eyes to evaluate the effect of the IOL on the crystalline lens and the anterior chamber. Six eyes were used as a control group. Minimum follow-up was four weeks.
