Mechanical Force Storage and Reprogramming Hydrogel for Scarless Repair of Sports Joint Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by the energy conversion of tendons, the “energy transit station” hydrogel is designed. The hydrogel not only shields stress concentration in sports injuries, but also reprograms energy forms to provide reasonable biomimetic contraction for wounds.

Phantom Limb Pain: Implications for Treatment When the Mechanisms Are Unknown [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
During the Civil War, American physician Silas Weir Mitchell was the first to coin the “phantom” to the sensations individuals experienced in their nonintact limb following limb amputation.

PIEZO Force Sensing in Vascular Biology: An Explosion of New Knowledge, Concepts and Opportunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Knowledge of the remarkable mechanical force sensing and electrically transducing PIEZO1 and PIEZO2 channels is discussed across vascular biology and its cell types from the embryonic to adult stages in health, disease and old age. How the channels work, relate to other factors and signal for tissue responses to mechanical forces is debated.

Challenges and Opportunities in Combining Ultrasound and Inductive Coupling for Energy Supply and Bidirectional Data Exchange in Bioelectronics Medicine Implant Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
In this contribution, it is shown that miniaturized nerve stimulation implants can be used in collaborative networks. Inductive links and ultrasound are combined to supply these implants with energy and data; the advantages and disadvantages of each method, as well as safety risks and possibilities for improvement are discussed and the best ...

Capturing the Perceived Phantom Limb through Virtual Reality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
poster abstractPhantom limb is the sensation amputees may feel where the missing limb (occasionally an organ) is still attached to the body and is still moving as it would if it were there.

An Ultrathin and Lightweight Soft Inflatable Actuator for Natural Tactile Sensory Feedback

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A lightweight, ultrathin soft actuator mimics natural touch by delivering strong, multimodal haptic feedback through pressure and vibration. Tested on both able‐bodied individuals and amputees, it achieves high sensory precision in a compact form. Its simplicity, power, and adaptability hint at transformative applications in prosthetics, immersive ...
