Abstract A series transformer with an iron core, with the secondary winding closed through a grid controlled tube, may be used to gradually (without step-by-step) regulate the power supplied to a network, connected to an a.c. source. At fully blocked tube, the high inductance of a transformer at no-load throttles the load current.
