Controlled fabrication of tunable delay using compound phase shifted resonators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Fine tuned, narrowband group delay (“slow light”) is obtained using a compound phase shifted grating and superposing resonances.

AI-Based Evaluation of Homogeneous Flow Volume Fractions Independent of Scale Using Capacitance and Photon Sensors

open access: yesARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University
Metering fluids is critical in various industries, and researchers have extensively explored factors affecting measurement accuracy. As a result, numerous sensors and methods are developed to precisely measure volume fractions in multi-phase fluids.

Climatology of Cloud Phase, Cloud Radiative Effects and Precipitation Properties over the Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Current passive sensors fail to accurately identify cloud phase, thus largely limiting the quantification of radiative contributions and precipitation of different cloud phases over the Tibet Plateau (TP), especially for the mixed-phase and supercooled ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT GLASS COMPOUNDS FOR INTRINSIC FIBER OPTIC TEMPERATURE SENSORS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2001
Different glasses suitable for temperature sensing in the fiber optic sensors were studied in this article. The phase changes for eight different glass materials were calculated and results were compared.

Interferometric Radars for Bridge Monitoring: Comparison among X-Bands, Ku-Bands, and W-Bands

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Interferometric radars are widely used sensors for structural health monitoring. They are able to perform dynamic measurements of displacement with sub-millimeter precision.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Inkjet printed LED based pH chemical sensor for gas sensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Predictable behaviour is a critical factor when developing a sensor for potential deployment within a wireless sensor network (WSN). The work presented here details the fabrication and performance of an optical chemical sensor for gaseous acetic acid ...

Applications of non-invasive sensor devices to personalised health care

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2020
The application of non-invasive devices in personal health care is becoming more and more widespread, especially sleep quality, which is a critical part of personal health because it is often associated with many diseases.
