Coming phase to phase with surfactants. [PDF]

open access: possible, 2011
We introduce a fast cellular automata model for the simulation of surfactant dynamics based on a previous model by Ono and Ikegami (2001). Here, individual lipid-like particles undergo stochastic movement and rotation on a two-dimensional lattice in response to potential energy gradients.

Phase-Space Approach to Berry Phases

Open Systems & Information Dynamics, 2006
We propose a new formula for the adiabatic Berry phase which is based on phase-space formulation of quantum mechanics. This approach sheds a new light onto the correspondence between classical and quantum adiabatic phases — both phases are related with the averaging procedure: Hannay angle with averaging over the classical torus and Berry phase with ...

Pancharatnam Phase and Berry Phase

2018
The Indian physicist S. Pancharatnam, working in quantum Optics in 1956, introduced the novel concept of a geometrical phase. Let \(H(\xi )\) denote a Hamiltonian that depends on some parameters \(\xi \), with ground state \(|\psi (\xi )\rangle \). One can define a phase difference \(\varDelta \varphi _{12}\) between two ground states \(|\psi (\xi _{1})

Phase and Phase-Sequence

The Modern Language Journal, 1979
T IS the purpose of this paper to explore critically the individual steps or phases commonly postulated in foreign-language teaching (FLT), and their relations to one another. In recent years, the literature critical of much current practice in FLT has grown considerably.

Phase Coexistence in a Dynamic Phase Diagram

ChemPhysChem, 2015
AbstractMetastability and phase coexistence are important concepts in colloidal science. Typically, the phase diagram of colloidal systems is considered at the equilibrium without the presence of an external field. However, several studies have reported phase transition under mechanical deformation.

Phase Unwrapping with Phase-Singularity Spreading

2006 IEEE International Symposium on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2006
We propose a novel phase unwrapping method where we spread the singularity in phase map with fractional phase compensators. We find that the obtained digital elevation maps have higher quality than those obtained in conventional network programming method. In addition, the calculation cost is very small.

Phase diagrams at diamagnetic phase transitions

Physical Review B, 1992
A phase-diagram method is proposed for the study of diamagnetic phase transitions. Experimental data for silver are analyzed.

Phase Equilibria, Phase Changes and Phase Characteristics

1979
In the first volume we had studied the characteristics and molecular make-up of gas, liquid and solid phases but had postponed, for now, the organized study of systems in which two or more phases occur together in equilibrium.

Phase Equilibria, Phase Diagrams and Phase Transformations

2007
Computational tools allow material scientists to model and analyze increasingly complicated systems to appreciate material behavior. Accurate use and interpretation however, requires a strong understanding of the thermodynamic principles that underpin phase equilibrium, transformation and state.

Is the A phase really “the A phase”?

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1992
The conventional wisdom regarding the identification of the microscopic order parameter of the A phase of superfluid 3He as the axial state is questioned. Examination of current experimental evidence reveals an inability to discriminate between the alternative models of the axial and axi-planar states.
