Boundary-Phase Plasticity

Metal Science Journal, 1972
AbstractChromium is an essential addition to some nickel-base alloys, since it increases their corrosion-resistance. In particular, the resistance of nickel-chromium alloys to corrosion by residual fuel-oil ash, which contains vanadium, sodium, and sulphur, is markedly improved by increasing the chromium content to 50%.

Dynamic Phase Boundaries for Compressible Fluids

SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2008
We present an algorithm for the simulation of a generalized Riemann problem for phase transitions in compressible fluids. We model the transition as a tracked jump discontinuity. The emphasis here is on the coupling of the phase transition process to acoustic waves, which is required for the study of cavitation induced by strong rarefaction waves.

On the slopes of phase boundaries

Metallurgical Transactions A, 1988
Several simple equations are derived which can be used to check binary phase diagrams for thermodynamic consistency. In many cases, the only thermodynamic data required are the entropies of fusion.

The Phase Boundaries of Wüstite

Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie, 1983
AbstractAccording to Darken and Gurry and to Swaroop and Wagner, the iron/wüstite phase boundary shows a minimum in oxygen content. From general thermodynamic relations it follows that at this minimum, the enthalpy of solution and entropy of solution of metallic iron in wüstite must be zero.

Structure of phase boundaries

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1977
The boundary between plus and minus spin phases of the Ising model is studied for the bcc 〈110〉 boundary. The iterative calculation due to Weeks and Gilmer is interpreted as a modification of the Natural Iteration computation (with subsidiary conditions) for deriving a free energy minimum.

The Structure of Grain Boundaries and Phase Boundaries in Ceramics

MRS Proceedings, 1983
ABSTRACTThe structure of different grain boundaries and phase boundaries are discussed by reference to a series of specific examples. The chosen examples of grain boundaries include the <l10>{l10} tilt boundary, the (001) twist boundary and the first-order twin boundary in spinel and the basal twin and the (1123) twin in Al2O3.

On the Evolution of Phase Boundaries

1992
This volume emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary research in the field of phase transitions, research which involves ideas from nonlinear partial differential equations, asymptotic analysis, numerical computation and experiment. Topics covered include the treatment of scaling laws that describe the coarsening or ripening behaviour ...

Boundaries, phases, and interfaces

2017
This book approaches the concept of boundary, central in linguistic theory, and the related notion of phase from the perspective of the interaction between syntax and its interfaces. A primary notion is that phases are the appropriate domains to explain most interface linguistic phenomena and that the study of (narrow) interfaces helps to understand ...
