Convergence of phase-field equations to the Stefan model

open access: yes, 1999
We discuss the convergence of the Caginalp-Fix phase field model to the weak formulation of the Stefan problem. In particular, we address two related situations: first, we study the case of a single substance subject to this change of the solidification ...

Dispositional Change Readiness of Teaching Interns: An Integrative Literature Review

open access: yes
Teaching internship marks a critical transition in the professional development of pre-service teachers, yet the dynamic and complex nature of today’s educational landscape can challenge their preparedness for this role shift.

Analytic Solutions to the Heat Equation Involving a Moving Boundary with Applications to the Change of Phase Problem (the Inverse Stefan Problem)

open access: yes, 1978
Long time analytic solutions to the inverse Stefan problem are presented in Cartesian and spherical coordinates. This problem deals with the phase change of a substance with the boundary conditions specified at the moving boundary.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Modelling of the binary alloy solidification process

open access: yes, 1992
Bibliography: leaves 129-132.A thermodynamically consistent model capable of modelling a binary alloy undergoing solidification or melting is developed. The theory is continuum based, and the solid-liquid phase change system is described macroscopically ...

A fast adaptive spatio-temporal fusion method to enhanced Fit-FC.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Space-time fusion is an economical and efficient way to solve "space-time contradiction". Among all kinds of space-time fusion methods, Fit-FC space-time fusion method based on weight Function is widely used.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.
