A phase change processor method for solving a one-dimensional phase change problem with convection boundary

open access: yes, 2010
A simple yet accurate iterative method for solving a one-dimensional phase change problem with convection boundary is described. The one-dimensional model takes into account the variation in the wall temperature along the direction of the flow as well as

Conduction-convection problems with change of phase

open access: yesJournal of Differential Equations, 1986
In the usual simplest formulation of free boundary problems one considers only the conduction, here a formulation is studied where also convective motions are taking into account. Two problems are studied: a ground freezing one, in which the water is subjected to Darcy's law, and a two phases stationary Stefan problem, where the motion of water is ...

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Research progress on solar energy storage water tanks based on phase-change materials

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2023
In the field of building energy conservation, solar energy is a highly favored clean energy source. However, the instability and discontinuity of solar energy greatly affect its application. Phase-change energy storage technology is widely used for solar

Making curved interfaces straight in phase‐change problems [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1987
AbstractThis paper presents a method for straightening curved interfaces arising in phase‐change problems. The method works on isoparametric finite elements, performing a second transformation which maps the master element onto a new one in which the interface looks like a straight line.

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

Numerical calculation of phase change heat conduction in freezing soil by lattice Boltzmann method based on enthalpy method

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
In the freezing process, the soil is accompanied by heat conduction, heat release for ice-water phase change, phase change interface movement, and a change in thermal diffusion coefficient, which is a complex nonlinear problem and is hard to solve.

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

A Modified Carbon Monofilament Effect on Shape Stability, Leakage Reduction, and Thermal Storage Efficiency of Phase Change System Based on Poly(ethylene glycol) [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم و تکنولوژی پلیمر
Hypothesis: Phase change materials (PCMs) can store latent heat energy during the phase change from solid to liquid. In previous studies, researchers have usually used the microencapsulation method to solve the leakage problem during melting.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...
